RHP Ryan Bergert(1-0, 2.00 ERA, 4 K, .219 BAA) vs RHP Aaron Civale(1-1, 5.19 ERA, 14 K, .269 BAA)

The Padres are coming off a tough split against a tough team. Now they head to Milwaukee to face the tough Brewers. They enter this series 2 games behind the Dodgers and 1 game ahead of the Giants. The Brewers will be tough. They have scored 35 more runs than the Padres this season and are 18-10 at home whereas the Padres are 15-16 on the road.

Both Kolek and Bergert are coming off an outstanding performance against the Giants, despite Bergert giving up a 2-run HR on one bad pitch. Manny has been hot the last 3 games going 7 for 12 (.583 avg) and 4 RBI. Bogaerts is out due to left shoulder soreness and is day to day.

Top NL West games:
- Dodgers(38-25) at Cardinals(34-27): We can only hope that the Cardinals will beat the Dodgers. The Cardinals are 20-8 at home where the Dodgers are 15-14 on the road.
- Giants(35-28) host Braves(27-34): The Braves are struggling this year and are 10-20 on the road. The Giants are tough to beat at their home where they play very well. We can only hope that the Braves will prevail.
- Dbacks(31-31) at Reds(30-33): They are of little concern right now as they are 4.5 games back of the Padres.

The Padres need to step it, do their part, and win. I would love to see them in first place going into the series against the Dodgers on Monday.

GO PADRES!

Game 1 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez DH

5. Sheets 1B
6. Bogaerts SS
7. Cronenworth 2B

The Padres take game 1.

I didn't get why Vasquez was taken out in the 5th inning. I thought he did a decent job and held the Brewers scoreless. That being said the BP was solid and Suarez earned his MLB league leading 20th save.

The Dodgers lost and the Padres move up to one game back.

Kolek on the mound tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Vasquez has been brilliant so far! Getting that kind of consistency from the #5 starter is what championship teams need. Now if we can just get someone to step up and act like a #1....

On that note, will Darvish pitch this year in San Diego? Kinda thinking he's either too old( read: injured) or too disintetested in competing. Be nice though if some semblance of Yu Darvish appeared at some point for the San Diego baseball team, as he's actually a good pitcher.

Do Vasquez's number get worse the 3rd time through an order? Without checking the numbers, he never seems to get close to 100 pitches. I know he walks too many but he usually seems able to get himself out of jams and limit damage( hence the 3.7 ERA)

I wouldn’t think Darvish is disinterested.More likely at his age they’re just making sure he’s 100%, with no doubt, before putting him back on the mound.

Vasquez's numbers do get significantly worse the 3rd time through the order. He had walked 4 guys and was clearly a bit frustrated with the ump. The last 3 batters were a HBP, 100+ EV single and a 100+ EV lineout to the track. I actually like Shildt making the aggressive early matchup play with Yelich coming up in that situation.

From what I've read about Darvish he's throwing bullpens again and trying to figure out a new recovery routine. His body isn't responding like it did in his younger days and he doesn't want to rejoin the rotation until he's confident that he can stick.

Dodgers lost again to the Cardinals. A Padres win tonight moves the them into first place over the Dodgers by .02%.

And actually Morejón struck Yielich out, but the ump screw him, big time.
