Thursday, June 19 - 7:10pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Ryan Bergert(1-0, 2.33 ERA, 16 K, .167 BAA) vs RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto(6-5, 2.64 ERA, 90 K, .195 BAA)

Another biggest NL West showdown of the regular season. This time it is a 4-game series and Ohtani is back on the mound and will open the series. This time the Padres will also have to face Yamamoto, who is coming off a rough outing against the Giants giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. The Dodgers are 25-12 at home.

Cease has given up more than 3 ER only once in 14 starts and a 3.39 ERA in 13 starts. He is coming off a solid 7 shutout innings against the Dodgers last week. I hope that he can repeat his solid performance again.

Vasquez is coming of a solid 4.2 inning start which I thought Shildt pulled him prematurely. He has had only 2 bad starts out of 14 this season and has a 2.49 ERA in 12 starts.

Kolek had a rough start in Arizona. Let's hope he bounces back. He has had only 3 bad starts out of 8 and a 0.28 ERA in 5 starts that include 4 shutouts and a CG.

Bergert has had 7 appearances, 4 as a RP giving up no runs and a 2.93 ERA in 3 starts.

The Padres have scored 15 runs on 24 hits and Sheet wents 5 for 7 the last two games. Tatis was hot this weekend going 8 for 13 and 3 RBI. I hope the Padres continue to keep it rolling.

Top NL West games: Giants(41-31) host Guardians(35-35), Dbacks(36-35) at Blue Jays(38-33)

The Padres announced they’ve selected outfielder Bryce Johnson onto the big league roster. Catcher Luis Campusano has been optioned to Triple-A El Paso as the corresponding active roster move. Right-hander Yu Darvish has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to open a 40-man spot.

Darvish to the 60 day does not alter when he could return ... just a formality to create a slot on the 40 man. Now when he ... or Hoeing come off the 60 day IL ... some moves need to be made.

Duds line-up is LOOOONNNGGG!!!

3 MVP's at the top, followed by 3 All Stars, and then Edman, Pages, and Kim(or Conforto). Lots of pop and speed at the bottom.

Good blueprint on how to build a top caliber O( well, that and a bottomless pit of money.......)

It doesn't help that you start serving breaking balls down the middle, other than Ohtani's hit, the other ones were bad pitches, also key, our guys were trying to hit a bunch of HRs, that includes Diaz and Iglesias for crying out loud, oooh, and on top the umps was killing them with the bottom of the zone, no idea why our pitchers don't realize that and pound it.

Well, the Padres drop to 4 games back.

Cease was solid until the 4th. Then he just collapsed.

I thought Cease pitched really well. The Dodgers got lucky with a lot of soft contact during their rally. Teoscar Hernandez beats out a weak grounder with some help from a bad throw. Will Smith follows with a pop up double down the line. They had a .140 and .060 xBA respectfully. If those are outs it's a 1-2-3 inning. Instead it turns into a 5 run inning that included 2 more soft hits by Ohtani and Betts. It's another frustrating loss, but with better luck we're talking about how Cease dominated.

Somehow, luck is rarely on our side, that is because you make your own luck, at least in life, chances are, also in baseball. 🤷

Searching for some bright spots ... and yesterday Peralta and Morgan showed well out of the pen keeping the LAD without scoring after the 5th. Both have been good recently ... good sign for using them to reduce the over use of the prime pen pieces OR gives some cushion if Preller uses RP at deadline as trade chips.

Tatis seems to have returned to his old form (good) over the bast few days both at bat and on the bases.

On the other hand ... Brooks did not make an impressive debut going 0 for 2 with 2 K. Maybe no upgrade from Ornelas, Campusano, Lockridge, Wade, Iglesias, Heyward for the offense. So, the search continues.
