I don't have a legit alternative at this point in the season but should we be concerned with the plight of Sheets and his taking a roster slot during a playoff run?
Apparently he has an issue with plantar fasciitis but more worrisome is that in the past 30 days (51 AB) has a slash line of 118/266/118 with no extra base hits and not being able to play effective defense in the OF.
When (if) Andujar and/or Taylor come off the IL ... even though RHH ... should we see Sheets to the IL instead of Workman or Bowen? That decision many be weeks from now given neither are in rehab mode.
Although a fan favorite ("Holy Sheets") ... Padres may have a decision to make after the season with Sheets being eligible for Arbitration #3 (last year of control). He is making $4.5MM now and that should go up a bit via Arb. If that approximately $5MM can be better used to try to resign someone like France or Morejon and find a cheaper LHH option to replace Sheets? (doubt this happens but a proposal in the CBA has player control dropping for 6 years to 5 ... that would make Sheets a FA if starts for 2027).

I've had plantar fasciatis, and it is not pleasant. Just standing is painful. I can't imagine trying to play baseball.
Put him on the IR. He needs time off his feet.

When I had it, I had to work through it to make bills. Still was umpiring 11 games a weekend with plantar fasciatis, Monday mornings were brutal!!

I've had the same thought about Sheets. He can't hit lefties at all. He hasn't hit any kind of pitching since June. If he needs time to get right put him on the IL and let the bench guys rotate in while the regulars get DH days. That would also open a spot to potentially bring in one of the guys who came available after the deadline that we talked about in the other thread. I think some of them could help while we wait for Andujar and Taylor to get back.

Rengifo needed to challenge that 1st strike. You could tell he disagreed with the call. Trying to save it rather than use it in a huge situation. Just a dumb decision.
