The Padres are going from a tough series losing to the Yankees, one of the best teams to Colorado to play the worst team. This is one of those places where the Padres have always had a hard time playing and winning. They swept the Rockies at Petco last month. I see no reason in the world they don't sweep them this time at Coors Field. Last season, the Padres were 5-8 against the Rockies and 3-4 at Coors field. They are 5-0 against the NL West. The Padres and Giants are 1 1/2 games back the Dodgers.

Cronenworth is expected to be back for this series and Merrill is hitting .400 avg. Tatis, Machado, and Bogaerts need to be more patient at the plate. The Padres would have been at least 1 run ahead going into the bottom of the tenth against the Yankees in game 3 had Bogaerts not swung at a very clear ball 4 when the bases were loaded. Bogaert and others need to be patient at the plate and find ways to manufacture runs.

Top NL West games: Dodgers(25-13) at Dbacks(20-18), Giants(24-14) at Twins(18-20)

6. Cronenworth 2B
7. Sheets DH
8  Heyward LF

Vasquez P

The lineup just got that much better.

To state the obvious ... COLO is a baaaaaaad team.

After 5 innings Vasquez has yielded only one run ... yes vs a bad team. However, no matter how frustrating to watch at time with his lack of control ... really warming up to him as a #4-5 SP. Keeping in mind I am happy with a bottom of the rotation guy just keeps the team in more than half the games he starts.

Vasquez at this point has 6 starts (avg at just over 5 innings) where he has given only 2 runs (once), 1 run (4 times), and no runs (once). 6 starts with a 1.79 ERA is better than most.

Only two clunkers ... the game vs DET (2 innings / 6 ER) and the game vs TB (4.2 innings / 3 ER) creating a 13.6 ERA for those two.

Noted on the broadcast that he has one of the best "weak contact" rates MLB ... his stuff is there. When the control is on ... he dominates.

IF he can continue at a 75% rate of plus starts ... Padres are in good shape.

They're record is better than the unis they are wearing tonight!

So, how much would the Pads owe to Peralta If they release him?

I was a little worried the Padres were going to blow a 11 run lead. I don't want to see Reynolds or Peralta in the next two games.

Vasquez did good tonight. Heyward was great with the glove, but terrible with the bat.

The Padres beat the Rockies for the 4th straight time. Kolek on the mound tomorrow. Let's hope he can get it done.

GO PADRES!
