The Padres lost the division to the Dodgers, making the Dodger/Rockies game meaningless, but still are playing for homefield advantage throughout the wild card round. They play the final series of the regular season against the Dbacks in Arizona. Fortunately, they will not have to face Gallen.
The Padres could end up playing the Dbacks two days after this series depending on the outcome of the Mets games. The Mets have 5 games with a DH on Monday. For the Padres to clinch the top wild card spot they will either have to win 2 games or win 1 game and Mets lose 1 game. The Padres just need to do their part and take care of the Dbacks.

The division was a long shot. The fact that it was even a remote possibility is a testament to how well the boys have been playing in the second half. The Braves/Mets double header on Monday makes this series a little more interesting. Like Ultra pointed out we need 1 win over the DBacks and a combination of wins or Mets losses that adds up to 2. Ideally I think we also want the Mets, Braves and DBacks to finish in a way that makes both games necessary on Monday with one of the teams involved coming to see us on Tuesday.
It looks like we're taking it one game at a time. They updated the pitching after the game last night. Darvish is bumped up to game 1. They didn't announce anything for games 2 and 3. If we've got the top spot locked up maybe they have Waldron or Vasquez make a start to keep everybody fresh for the playoffs.

I made a statement in my opening post that how the Dodger do against the Rockies this weekend was meaningless. Well, I stand corrected. It might mean something depending you who you want to see the Padres play or have a best chance against in the divisional round: Dodgers(95-64) or Phillies(94-65)?
The Padres will play the team with the best record and that is currently the Dodgers. The Dodgers play the Rockies in Colorado and the Phillies play the Nationals in DC. The Phillies had owned the Padres this season winning the season series 5-1 and the Dodgers, despite winning the NL West, have won their first series against the Padres this season, but lost the season series.
So, which team does the Padres have a better chance against in the divisional series? If the Dodgers, then we will want them to take care of the Rockies. If Phillies, then we will want the Rockies to take care of the Dodgers.

Shildt said Kim's throwing still isn't where it needs to be on the radio today. I was hoping he would make it back, but it sounds pretty unlikely at this point.

Padres win. Mets lose. We've got the 4 seed locked up now. Just a question of how to best navigate these last 2 games to get us set for the start of postseason play now.

Acee is implying potential labrum surgery. That really throws a wrench in his FA.

Padres win and Mets lose.
Padres clinch 1st seed to host the wild card and they tie the 1984 Padres for the second best record in franchise history.

Expect all the regulars get at least one day off while AB for the limited use bench players. Given the Kim status Ahmed might get two starts.

The Padres still don't know who they will play. The Braves are currently in the 2nd spot and the Dbacks may not get in.

So, which team gives the Padres the best chance to advance: Braves, Mets, or Dbacks? IMO, the Braves.
