Rotation against Cubs in Wild Card Series Announced

Game 1 = Pivetta, as expected vs. LHP Matthew Boyd for the Cubbies.

Game 2 = Cease, in a surprising call.  Cease has been competitive at Petco, not on the road, unfortunately for us, this game is in Chicago.  Let's hope we see good Dylan.  I believe he will be on a short lease.

Game 3 = Darvish.  Yu hasn't been consistent this year.  Let's hope his playoff experience will come in handy, if needed.  I believe YD will be on a short lease also.

King will be available out of the pen if necessary for any game, according to Shildt.

This info. was from AJ Cassavell.

Both teams split the season series 3-3, with both teams scoring 25 runs.  Interesting.  Very evenly matched.  Whoever wins game one is in the driver's seat.  Go Pads!  Beat the Cubs!

Expect everyone on a short leash ... key is Pivetta getting a win in game one then Shildt can have some strategic options around Cease and the pen in game 2.

Cease has pitched pretty well vs the Cubs and last year in a game at Wrigley. Might be guessing he can get a clean 3-4 innings, then if losing it, we see that pen. Better chance (based on their recent past) King and Vasquez can handle coming out of the pen.

Rumor is that the Padres are considering going with three catchers ... Diaz is still in the twilight zone of playing condition. Pivetta - Diaz have been a good combo and it seems he will be able to catch ... more question on batting (and maybe throwing). Fermin in the other games.

Campusano and Maldonado (not sure the conditions to add him since not on the 40 man) are with the club.

Campusano not only give some catching insurance (injuries happen) but given the CUBS LHP and an overly LHH Padre line-up ... adding a RHH (maybe over LHH Wagner or offensive challenged McCoy) makes sense.
