In the 7th, Jordan Lyles is blanking his former team!
Could this be the day?

Quote from WindsorUK on May 15, 2018, 2:26 pmJankowski taking hold of that leadoff spot.
No time for pulling a Bud Black! Leave this kid at the top of the order, everyday, for the next month.

Quote from WindsorUK on May 15, 2018, 2:46 pmAnd of course Green yanks Lyles after the walk, even though he'd only thrown 85 pitches.
Hand just walked the bases loaded, tying run at the plate.
Jordan deserved to attempt to complete his game.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 15, 2018, 3:57 pmHo hum.......another 1 hitter.
I knew it was coming.
Its like the boy who cried wolf.
When it does actually happen I think there will be 2 outs in the 9th before I will allow myself to believe........and even then.

He hasn't gone beyond 5 innings all year and that was his last start. Clearly the adrenaline dump was getting to him. No way he was going to finish the game.

Quote from fenn68 on May 15, 2018, 4:32 pmCount me as one of the ones who couldn't understand why they re-signed Lyles last winter (except he was low cost). Now we should always throw out the "small sample size" as a caution but is there a little chance he may have found something with Balsley that would make him at least a legit ML pitcher?
Prior to this year he had pitched nearly 700 inning in the ML ... ERA over 5.30 and WHIP around 1.50 and not even that good with the Padres in 2017. Only 32 innings this season but an ERA at 2.93 and a WHIP 0.91. Historically not a lot of command of very good "stuff" that got him to the ML at about age 23. So, has his command settled in at age 27 to allow his "stuff" to play up? New Lyles or a mirage?
=====
Note that Mitchell is also 27 ... less ML innings BUT just about as bad as Lyles prior to this season. I looks to me that Mitchell suffers from the same profile with quality "stuff" and no command. So MAYBE a glimmer of hope still there with Mitchell.

Quote from Booster SD on May 15, 2018, 7:36 pmIt does take awhile for the magic that is Balsley to take affect, how long did it take Balsley to spin up Ross, Pomeranz, etc? I do believe that there is still time for Mitchell to come around. Lyles, hopefully he has found something, and then as the kids come up, we can have additional pieces to trade, Lyles etc.
Although I think Lyles is just under contract for this year.
