Please just put Tatis back in the leadoff spot, if for no other reason than to see if at least he can get things going with his legs.

Quote from fenn68 on April 30, 2024, 6:53 amIf Tatis, Machado, and Bogaerts can’t hit … does not make much difference where they hit. The future of the Padres is based on these three big money long term contract players … future not looking good as these three just age and preform less. Consider:
Machado: 2022 (298/366/531 …897); New contract; 2023 (258/319/462 … 781); 2024 (252/308/387 … 695)
Bogaerts: 2022 (307/377/456 …833); New contract; 2023 (285/350/440 … 760); 2024 (216/285/288 … 573)
Tatis: 2021 (282/364/411 …937); DNP; 2023 (257/322/449 … 771); 2024 (236/317/431 … 748)
Disturbing steady decline in AVG/OBP/SLG for ALL THREE as they all age … the next 10 years? About $80MM AAV “invested” in three players struggling to be average.

Quote from 3fingersplit on April 30, 2024, 9:12 amBaseball has always been a game of ebb and flow and this team is no different...they have run into some good pitching and let's face it...any guy that takes the mound in MLB is a stud even if their numbers don't reflect it.
These guys are too good to continue in their collective funk and they will come out of it. With that said I have always been a firm believer in Bio Rythm's and when a guy gets hot it can usually trace back to the three things that make up a Bio Rythm and then when they go into a slump it's a sign that they are at a low on at least one of the three with the emotion facet being the biggest culprit.
Sounds silly but I've seen it happen for years...these guys just need to turn the page and go back to basics...take the ball back up the middle and expand the field once they get dialed back in.
Go Pads!!!

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 1, 2024, 10:43 amThe Padres get a win last night to end a 5 game skid and nobody has anything to say. Darvish comes back and throws 5 innings and looked good...Morejon and De Los Santos got knocked around but Matsui was nails and Suarez gets his 10th save of the season...just straight gas that reached 100 mph on more than one occasion.
Machado knocks in three and Profar just keeps doing his thing...obviously he just plays very well for the Padres.
Hopefully today they can follow up last night with a day game win and Musgrove rebounds from a rough last outing. Should be a nice day at Petco and will be even better if the boys bring the bats and barrel a few up.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 2, 2024, 7:36 amOther than his K's Tatis has still been hitting the ball hard on his outs.....not worried.
Machado has also been coming around....robbed of a 3 run HR and had some more good contact.
Bogaerts has not been hitting the ball with any authority....he,and his wrist,is my only real concern.

Quote from fenn68 on May 2, 2024, 8:29 amI always worry. I remember last season the on going theme that all the underperforming stars will return to get to their past performance … did not come to be. In the end missed the playoffs.
On the other hand with only 20% of the season in if they just hover around .500 just one good winning streak at any point will lift them to enough wins to get to the playoffs. So, not to worry … yet.
Have to be surprised that Profar and Cronenwoth are carrying the offense so far with support from Campusano and Merrill. The “cornerstones” are not delivering … Machado, Tatis, Bogaerts, and Kim … they SHOULD be better but will the current surprising contributors simultaneously fade … and will the net be better or the same? Will the core not only get better but will they get to (or near) the high expectations?
No way to know but that is why they play the season.

Quote from fenn68 on May 2, 2024, 8:36 amNote that over the past couple of weeks … both Kim and Merrill have been really struggling …
Has the league adjusted to Merrill?
Was Kim’s good offense in 2023 the aberration and not the level we should expect in 2024 (not good for his walk year base for FA)?
