Padres vs Reds April 26-28

PreviousPage 2 of 2

It was the Reds, but Gore showed a lot when either his pitches or the ump's calls (or both) were inconsistent.  Gutting through 5 tough innings and over 100 pitches shows to me that Gore has "graduated" to being a major league pitcher, i.e., one that knows how to get out of jams.  I'm glad the Padres didn't give up on him through all those tough times from 2020 to now.

Martinez threw a lot of pitches versus LA, so we'll see how he bounces back.  With his bulldog mentality, I can see him being an ideal long man, who can come in and shut down an offense while our offense tries to claw our way back into games.  He's better than Crismatt and eventually should replace him in that role.   Hope he does well which would set us up well for the Pittsburgh series with Darvish, Manaea and Musgrove.

The Padres win the series, which is really the goal, and a sweep would be icing on the cake. Hosmer continues to hit both Right and Left hand pitching, he will cool off because that's baseball but it's nice to see. Gore showed a lot of moxey and he deserves to stay in the rotation until he doesn't

Get game three this morning.....Go Pads !!!

Martinez with a solid 5. Hosmer continues to hit!

Pen just needs to hold.....

After the great defense in the beginning of the year they look sloppy and that won't work against better teams. Abrams needs to go down and play every day. Kim looks solid and has shown some life at the plate.

Taylor has been effective!

And I agree- time for Abrams to be sent down and let Kim get ALL the SS reps.

Leverage guys (Garcia, in particular) have been a little shaky lately but should come around.  Surprised they didn't let Crismatt go more than one but with LH batters coming up, probably wanted to see how Hill would do - and he again was not that good.  Need Johnson back to take some of the pressure off Wilson and I hope Castillo is going to be ready soon for obvious reasons - don't think they can count on Kerr for pressure situations but might see him in the Pittsburgh series because Hill has been so bad.

Thank goodness for Rogers even though Pagan is off to a decent start in Minnesota.  Wish he and Paddack all the best.

Until get some production from AAA infielders, probably going to keep throwing Abrams out there.  Hinojosa has shown some life lately but Eguy has really struggled;  Batten has been the most consistent and his scrappy style might play for a few games if promoted even though he is a RH bat and you would need a 40 man spot to open up.  No infielders in AA worth promoting - best we have is Merrilll down in Lake Elsinore whose been out the last couple of days.

Onto Pittsburgh - hope we can keep everything pointing upward.
