Padres vs. Rangers

Davies tonight and apparently TBD on Tuesday.

Pham IL, France recalled as expected.

  1. Grisham (L), 2. Tatis, 3. Machado, 4. Hosmer (L), 5. France - DH, 6. Cronenworth (L), 7. Profar (S) - LF, 8. Naylor (L) -RF, 9. Hedges

A little more "traditional" lineup with the worst hitting Pitcher, ooops I mean C 🙂 batting last.

Makes some sense.  Plan to use someone who can be optioned down today.  Then trade places with Morejon tomorrow & either he or Patino starts.  Morejon could also be "rolled back down" after appearing tomorrow, b/c team will be back at home Wed.  I like the extra off day for Paddack & Lamet here.

Perdomo is actually tempting as a DFA; if someone claims him they pick up his arb salary.  Hard to see him not being non-tendered this offseason.  He has talent, but is just frustratingly consistently inconsistent.

Now that’s more like it.

First inning was frustrating...Grisham and Tatis both watch strike three right down the middle then Machado works to 3-0 count and then pops out on 3-0.

Second inning was much better.

I swear it's the solid brown unis . I much prefer them over the pinstripes , never been a fan of pinstripes.

I wonder what's their record in the stripes vs solid?

Wow even Hedges hits one out. Great 2nd inning stringing a few hits together like olde timey baseball.

Hold your breath , here comes the relievers.

Tatis had quite a game and I have to laugh that people are saying the "unwritten" rules of baseball would say DON'T swing on a 3-0 pitch up by 6 or 7......sorry but that's garbage. Why not say he has to take strike 3 right down the tube while you're at it ?

It's baseball and if the pitcher lays one in because he thinks Tatis isn't going to swing deserves the end result.....throw a better pitch instead of middle middle and maybe you don't give up the Grandy

It was a great swing and when he gets in the zone he is right now I say let it rip because we all know it can turn around really quick and disappear

This kid is really fun to watch and reminds me of when Tony was playing in his heyday......people would stop what they were doing just to watch his at bat.....how could anybody not like Tatis ?

The problem will be getting him locked up because he will surpass Machado and Haper in contract and I see him topping Mookie Betts in total dollars.....370 plus million for  XX years.

Nice win tonight ....Go Pads !!!

Good to get contributions from the bottom of the line-up; hope it continues.  Perdomo still stinks.  Tingler says Morejon goes tomorrow but he hasn't "officially" been brought up from the taxi squad yet.  Perdomo is still my pick to take trip to the alternate training site and stay there for quite awhile.  Strahm saved our bacon with excellent relief.  Tatis Jr. is incredible!  Still hoping for a trade for a veteran bat, preferably an OF or C, and maybe another veteran RP or a SP, which is even harder to find.   Hope we don't have to give too much.

The only one I'd agree with is RP.  With loss of Yates & Pagan's ongoing struggles, the back of the pen needs help.  Wouldn't want to be Preller going hat in hand to Fowler asking him to spend MORE $ this year!  Having added so many RP's with control years,  I'd look for the vet going into FA; pure rental.  Lower prospect cost to acquire, but likely some significant salary $.

SP I've already stated my case I think we're fine with all our options.  OF & C, Naylor & Torrens now get a chance to show what they can do; silver lining, especially at C.  Although the injury definitely was playing a part in Mejia's rough start.  Naylor (& maybe others vs LHP) only has to exceed what Pham had done so far; so the bar isn't set THAT high.  I wouldn't mind a "true" DH > France, but now he gets a chance to prove his worth too.

So a lot of uproar from Tatis swinging 3-0 up by 7 runs late.

I guess I'd have to ask if he had taken that strike instead of swinging and the Rangers got out of that inning unscathed....

would the Rangers hitters then "not try" to score and win the game in the bottom of the inning?

Is the Rangers Manager saying that the game was already before he hit that Grand Slam and that they were going to give in?

i doubt it.

I'm guessing if he hadn't swung no matter what the outcome of the Padres half of that inning the Rangers hitters all would have tried their best to come back and win.

So in that scenario only the team that's "behind" is allowed to keep trying to score?

B.S.

Not holding out much hope for a “quality” add at the trade deadline .... hard to see many available and if one is, the competition from contenders should make the cost really go up (over pay) ... and for only 3-4 weeks with not likely wanting to take on more payroll ... maybe not a good idea. Not a lot of time for any player arrive ... clear protocols ... get acclimated to the new team - league and be effective if not a full time player.

Just not a lot of time for an add to contribute if he can immediately produce to expectation.

However, this is Preller ... so should be prepared for something.
