Game 1 Friday May 27th 6:40pm PST

SD Sean Manaea LHP vs PIT Jose Quintana LHP

Game 2 Saturday May 28th 7:10pm PST

SD Joe Musgrove RHP vs PIT JT Brubaker RHP

Game 3 Sunday May 29th 1:10pm PST

SD Mackenzie Gore LHP vs PIT Roansy Contreras RHP

Hopefully we get off to a strong start to the next stretch of games here. We play 31 straight and see the Cardinals, Brewers, and Mets after this series.

We gotta get the offense going.

The  Dodgers…and even the Reds, just had as many hits in a game as we have in a week.

For some reason we score better on the road…that needs to change but hopefully not until after this road trip upcoming.😉

Estury Ruiz should be added to the 40 and brought up to SDP..can DFA Alcantara and send Grish to AAA.. he is going on a 4 month slump Aug/Sept 2021 and now April/May 2022... cant have a Starting CFer hitting .150.... Give Ruiz June... best case he becomes a contender for ROY and Grish finds himself and increases his value at AAA.... worst case he does the same as Grish and we now know CF is a priority at Deadline or offseason.... But IF Ruiz can come in and do .250/.330/.425 or something close to that and swipe 20 bases and hit 10-15 Hrs ... we may have a development at CF for the rest of the season and onto next year that may allow AJP to address other needs and Ruiz can build on those #s as he aclimates to MLB...

We have seen the outstanding stats from Ruiz in AA … comments on how he has improved his approach … but have not heard any comments from scouts on his readiness for MLB, basically his remaining flaws.

On the surface, given how poorly Grisham is (and has been playing), my gut reaction is to see what we have in Ruiz (expect that he would be added to the 40 man anyway at the end of the season). However, would prefer to hear a scout’s view. Plus a view on his maturity to handle the promotion under pressure.

I guess even if Ruiz  is … now … just a marginal upgrade, he is on the development upside whereas Grisham after 3 ML seasons is probably what he is. Padres have to be debating this in the front office.

I wish Grish was who he is... because since the 2nd half of last year he isn't even close to who he is (lol) he has awful numbers .. ill take .241 Grish... but he hasn't even been Mendoza (way below) since last yrs All Star break til 2 months into this season.. so bordering on "unplayable" to be 💯 honest

Esteury Ruiz is hitting well this year but is still seen as a backup type of talent as opposed to an actual offensive force. I see it more likely the Padres will trade for a COF as opposed to a CF. If the Padres are getting desperate and are in playoff contention I can see them calling up Hassell for CF late in the year if he is still hitting.

Also, am I the only one who saw what looked like a few absolutely wicked 95-97mph cut fastballs from Gore in his last start?

Gore looked good. I saw him in spring training close up and he looked ready then. They need to keep him in the starting rotation.

I got Azocar leading off tonight against the lefty. I think BoMel was impressed the other night.

Grisham would benefit from some time in ELP.

I know Ruiz is looked as more of a 4th OFer BUT Grish doesn't even look like that at this moment ...I can live with Azocar in CF as well until Grish figures this out or doesnt..doesn't... Hassell has really struggled for the last 3 weeks or so... so I don't think he is ready for AA yet let alone a huge jump to the MLB til 1 he figures it out and 2 ST most likely...

Hassell should not even be in the current conversation … he is looking for a lot more development and maybe is more a 2024 option … unless he is traded.

As for Ruiz, has this year elevated his projection past “4th OF”? He always had the bat speed but a poor hitting approach … if the approach has been “fixed” and can get him a .250 ML average … he has the other tools to be a starter somewhere in the ML.

——————————-

Everything I have heard is that the Padres want to keep Gore starting to ensure he is developing and stretched out. With the next month packed with games … even though Melvin likes a 5 man rotation … we may a 6 man, especially with some uncertain return time for Clevinger.
