Padres vs Mets Game Thread

So the Mets come into Petco for a 3 game and their only visit to San Diego this year

Looks like it's Richard, Lucchesi and Mitchell on the hill for this one

So many questions......

Can the Bats actually show up and at least be more consistent with contact ?

I had heard the Padres lead all of baseball in Strikeouts and that's not really a stat teams should be aiming for

Can Mitchell actually get it together and have a good outing ?

Tough Start to the season but it's never too late to get the direction going the right way

What say you out there in Padre Land ?

Go Pads !!!

Mets claim Baumann.

Spangenberg optioned to Triple-A El Paso to make room for Eric Hosmer's return from family medical leave list.

Makes some sense ... not hitting well but as important IF they sit him at 3B he may be back up when Headley leaves or Villanueva slumps ... so positioned for 3B in 2019 (or sooner). Not a lot of other 2019 options near term. Buys some time (and gets some more ABs) for Headley to maybe get some mid-season trade interest.

Fenn, you might have to accept that Villanueva is our 3B for the foreseeable future. Even if he slumps, Green has to keep sending him out there.

He and Cordero have forced there way into every day jobs.

I’m thinking we need to send a Reliever out for the 1st inning in Mitchell’s remaining starts.

If it weren’t for inning 1 he would be “decent”.

Just about had it with Mitchell.

Even when he gets ahead of a hitter he has no idea how to put them away.

He either works the count back to full or he grooves one down the middle so the hitter can do damage.

Argh!

Green better keep Villanueva in the starting line-up given his hitting and I am hoping Villanueva stabilizes into a consistent ML 3B. Just with only about 80 PA so far this year I will remain cautious about his longer term future. IF he establishes himself (and Headley goes at some point) Spangenberg at least could be a legit back-up since few players play every day (injury / rest) and the Padres have no real alternative for 2019.

Agree the same goes for Cordero ... the man oozes talent and potential ... so more than willing to live with the holes in his game while he develops. With Myers on the DL and not sure about the return of Renfroe, he should have a great chance to showcase.

P.S. Any word on the health status of Renfroe? Could have come off the DL to replace Myers ... did not ... and nothing said about him being an option. Maybe the elbow is more troublesome that was reported.

Seems the same as he was in NY ... stuff without command / control. Thought they might flip him and Lyles at some point but Lyles looked like the old Lyles today.  Would like to see Erlin but after not pitching for 2 years ... would guess they don't see him pitching the needed innings for a starter in 2018. Perdomo got hit today in El Paso. All that "earns him" some more starts ... I guess since he has no minor league options.

Once they have seen enough (or he goes DL then on a rehab) ... might be a toss up between calling up Quantrill (maybe too soon but pitching well in AA) or take a look and see on Kennedy (the non-prospect pitching well in AAA). Just for the underdog value ... would like to see Kennedy get a shot (plus sends a good signal to the kids in the minors that performance matters). Bad team ... why not?
