Padres vs Cubs Game Thread

Well.....I really thought they would pull this one out today but again we make a play or attempt to make a play and it comes back to bite us.
The defense has just hit a major bump in the road and giving teams runs with extra outs allowed per inning is a killer
Since the All Star Break
0-3 vs Braves
1-2 vs Marlins
? - 1 vs Cubs
4-10 in July.......
0-3 vs the Giants
3-4 vs the Dodgers.....Go Figure
OUCH
Hopefully tomorrow they can get back in the win column

Argh!
Kimbrell can’t throw a strike and our best hitter Is bunting?
I absolutely hate the idea of a great hitter trying to give up his at bat with the game on the line.

So Morejon and Baez gonna piggy back today?
I really wanted to do this with Paddack and Strahm.

Think it is Morejon and Quantrill piggybacking today.
Think they are optioning Naylor to make room on the 25 man ... hear nothing yet on the Baez add. In both cases no word yet on the 40 man roster accommodation.

Awesome job by Quantrill, it is so exciting to have real prospects, I still remember the days when guys like Dennis Tankersley, Stan Pencer and a couple other were the answer

Really impressed how Quantril was moving the ball all over the strike zone.
He was a bit wild on occasion but he was locked in most of the time and the Cubbie hitters had no idea where the pitches were going.

Some kudos should go to the scouting and development folks. They clearly saw something when they drafted Quantrill (most here were not fond of the #1 pick at the time) and had confidence in him during his some mediocre minor league path (stat wise) where he only delivered a 4.46 ERA / 1.44 WHIP and lacked command.
Still time needed to be sure but his ML time ... 52 innings ... he as delivered a 3.76 ERA / 1.18 WHIP with movement on his stuff and decent command are all encouraging.
Again evaluating the "stuff" not the minor league stats is the key ... just have to wait (and hope) the pieces fall into place for the player to achieve his projection.
