Well it was a fitting end for my last trip to Petco of the season.

Well it was a fitting end for my last trip to Petco of the season.

I was there too, It Is unbelievable how many opportunities they waste, I can't remember a Padres team that didn't take advantage of those bases loaded no out situations consistently throughout a complete season like this one, not even 2003 or any other 95+ Ls season

With as historically bad as this team has been all year, have they once tried a suicide squeeze in those situations? Yeah, I realize you want to play for the big inning but let's face it, these guys can't take that kind of heat.

Grab the one run( aren't we the worst team in MLB in 1 run games?) and hope to play for more later.

I'm sure it's crossed Melvin's mind a time or two but the analytics guys probably tell him no.

Just a few games ago. Profar squared with Soto on 3rd. The pitcher basically fell over bouncing a ball to the plate and Soto got picked off.

Frankly doubt many on this team can bunt at all let alone a more precise suicide squeeze. Sort of an art that has not been taught / practiced in decades as the game moved to the “three outcome” philosophy.

Odds are the bunt would be missed and the runner out at the plate or more likely popped up and create a double play.

Padres had a winning streak but keep in mind it was against three of the worst teams in MLB (OAK, COLO, STL) and, for the most part, still could not hit against a run of fringe or minor league arms with poor ERA. Plus as the case of the entire season they pumped up their stats with a sprinkle of 10-11 run games.

Yesterday … 2 on 1 out (Soto hits into a double play) … 2 on 1 out (Machado hits into a double play) … both early and could have created a strong lead. Then bases loaded and Bogaerts grounds into a force out, Tatis strikes out, Soto strikes out. That is your BIG FOUR … all of them … failing in the clutch.

Have been holding on to all four rebounding to their reputations … if not in 2023 then 2024 but beginning to worry that they are not what their reputations suggest (or for whatever reason are in decline). I could accept one have an issue … maybe two … but all four?

Bases loaded, no outs....let's  see if we score....

Alright!!! Batten be battin'!
