Cease vs Wacha should be a good match up…the boys will need to be swinging the bat tonight

Will be interesting to see if the trends for the season hold up tonight.

Cease is much better (over 1 run lower ERA at 2.45) in road games (6 starts) than at PETCO. Offense is much better on the road vs at PETCO. Padres are much better vs RHP (Wacha is RH) vs LHP (the entire MIA starter set).

So, the trends favor the Padres … unless Wacha is really on his game.

I really thought the last one was gone, still trying to get to my my normal heart rate😲

18 hits and only 2 extra base hits? Wow.

Not complaining about the run production( I'll take 11 any day!) but did anyone hit the ball with authority?

Seen a lot of hard hit balls go right at defenders this year so Im happy we are hitting the ball (first) and then hitting them where the defense is not (second).  Kolek seems to be at the end of his string with poor performances lately - time to get Mazur out of pitchers hell in El Paso.  Also, Peralta doesn't seem to be the LH hitting answer off the bench/rotate at DH.  Im for giving Sullivan another shot.

Although maybe give Peralta another weeks worth of AB's? Squeeze the last bit of MLB out of him?

Success on the road continues … think they have the best winning record on the road in the NL. 28 games a good sample size.

After all the years of complaining about players swinging for the fences (and normally missing) in situations when a single can score a run … actually happy to see the team just trying to make contact (and hitting those singles). To that end … in all of MLB … the Padres are #1 in AWAY batting average at .294 (2nd is far behind at .264) and in OBP at .348. Although yesterday did not show it … they still are sitting #6 in SLG. Simply they are flat out good in AWAY games. Now at PETCO …

Agree that Kolek is hanging on by a thread. What might save him for now is the relative light use of the pen overall and if they just have him to eat some innings in non-competitive games he serves a purpose. I do like his stuff when his command is there.

Mazur is probably the best call-up option but if he struggles and needs to be sent down (and the Padres have returned Kolek to SEA) not confident in anyone else but do expect injuries to the pitching staff to require additional arms at some point. Vasquez then ?

Padres may just be careful not to short their depth on pitching this early for a test run of Mazur. He may get his shot at the next IL of a pitcher (some “easy” DFA off the 40 man to fit him in).

Peralta does not seem to be the LHH answer for DH … not sure how long a run he gets.

Wade has lost a lot of playing time with the arrival of Peralta … and although his BA too is it not great he did provide some better value in the line-up with his speed, base-running, and even bunting skills. Also, given the way Solano is hitting might be tempted to run him out vs RH starters.

If they are set on a LHH … Pauley has not been dominant at EP so probably not an option for a part time guy.

Sullivan does make sense as a LHH but not really sure at the ML level he is that much better than Peralta. On the other hand, getting to the point where Campusano may need a bit more time off (he is catching about 4 out of 5 starts) and Higashioka is flat out not hitting (but seems to be the best option for Waldron’s knuckle ball. Don’t think he solves the LHH DH role, so not a priority move I guess.

Guessing that in about a month … depending on how Peralta and the team are doing … Preller will be scouting around for a minor trade for a LHH hitting rental for a minor prospect.
