Padres @ Phillies June 17-19

PreviousPage 2 of 2

How is it that a 21 year old rookie is the only everyday player we have that's still producing here in June????

Thank goodness for Merrill.

Oh, and not to forget MLB's leading hitter as of 20 June, Jurickson Profar!

Outside of HR's, his numbers are very similar to Soto. Who saw this coming????

Honest question: has there been a better starting pitcher in the NL over the past 2 months than Matt Waldron?

Edit: just did some diving around, and Waldron is indeed one of the leagues best pitchers over the past few months. Interestingly enough, he's surrounded by ex Padre draft choices Mikolas, Rea, Quantril, Gore, and Fried.

Me thinks someone needs to allow young pitchers to mature.....🤔🤔🤔

Boy we needed that!

WooHoo!!!!!!

We won!!!!!

3 months ago we were expecting a SP staff lead by Musgrove, Darvish, Cease, King, Vasquez / Brito ... and now a guy who was not considered a great prospect is not only leading the staff but one of the best in baseball.

3 months ago we were expecting an offense carried by the big three of Machado, Bogaerts, and Tatis .... and now it is being lead by Profar (reclaimed off the scrap heap), Merrill (a 21 year old prospect from AA who was moved from SS to CF where he had never played) ... plus key adds of Arraez, Solano.

3+ months to go ... given the unexpected of the first three months ... expect the unexpected for the remainder of the season. Remember even with the frustration of the season so far ... Padres are on the cusp of a Wild Card berth.

On June 19th the Padres are 38-40 (.487) ... last year on June 19th they were 35-37 (.486), so they are better percentage-wise by .001. In 2023 they barely missed the playoffs with a number of key injuries in the second half ... maybe the Padres got those injuries out of the system early and will comeback stronger (they will have a lot more off days to keep rested) and we see a a Shildt style second half surge.

Trade deadline should be interesting depending on the next 4-5 weeks.

To think that they have played bad baseball a few times already and still somehow are 38-40, makes you wonder, a lot, I will be there on Sunday for my birthday, section 119 rows 20-22, I was leaning to stay at Ensenada and have a party (Carne Asada) at home because my son has the soccer quarterfinals, but he said that he wants to go to Petco, I hope he is not becoming a Padres fan as much as his dad, it is not easy, not easy at all, time will tell 🙁
