Padres @ Giants

PreviousPage 4 of 4

Last 6 games against quality teams (TB, SF) and the Padres’ offense scores: 2-2-5-4-3-2 runs … average 3 runs per game. Go 2 wins / 4 losses. That run production is not going to win a lot of games as the offense remains unproductive. Last night hitting into a whopping 4 DP.

Pitching / defense are keeping the games close but beginning to worry that the lack of blowout wins is causing an over use of the key RP arms and they will burn out as the season progresses. Most then will focus on the pitchers but the real culprit in a fading pen will likely be the lack of offense.

They need to reevaluate the blocking the plate rule. I can't believe the intent was to bail out a guy that gets thrown out by 3+ steps. There was an awful one against the Rangers yesterday too.

As much as I am an umpire guy, that call was bullshit. Horrible call from NY. 2 runs on MLB

Right?

I mean....is the Catcher supposed to let that ball just go to the backstop?

He had to move to catch the ball...he has to have the right to actually "catch" the incoming throw no matter where its going.

Critical call leading to this loss.....of course,we could have just scored 8 more runs and won.

**sigh**

Today’s game has Snell going and given his recent track record should keep SF at bay … at least until the pen shows in in the 6th-7th.

However, concerned about SF sending out LHP Wood … who has 7 quality starts out of his 9 starts … bombed in his last start prior to an IL stint (really hurt his ERA) but came back v. LAD on the 17th and dominated for his 5 innings.

Other than being effective … he is LH … and Soto, Cronenworth, Carpenter really struggle vs LHP and Soto / Cronenworth are not getting benched while inserting Cruz over Carpenter does not add much. Has the setup for another low scoring game out to the Padres … so the pressure mounts on Snell and the pen.

It's ridiculous. If they're going to make a blocking call on a play like that they might as well just go to the beer league softball 2 plates system. If that's really what they want just eliminate tag plays at the plate entirely.

Part of that rule is the runner has to have a reasonable chance at scoring, which he 100% DID NOT! He was only half home when the ball bounced into Sanchez's glove.

That was an absolutely HORRIBLE  call. MLB should be embarrassed by it.

I imagine they'll come out with an apology shortly.....( not holding my breath!)

The SD Druids celebrate the summer solstice with an offensive explosion.

Will the start of summer signal the rebirth of the winning ways?
