The Giants are coming in hot having won their last 7 games. Walker has been a bullpen arm for them. His longest outing is 3 innings so likely just an opener. There's some speculation that they could call up Kyle Harrison for his debut on Wednesday.

Agree this is a big series vs SF … and since it is just difficult for any team to maintain long winning streaks, the Padres should have some success vs the 7 in a row Giants just from that.

SF is a real surprise so far this season as is AZ which is not making the Padres’ push for the playoffs any easier. Before the season the consensus was the Division was between the LAD and SD. As it stands the Padres are only 3 games in the loss column behind LA but unfortunately it is the 3rd place LAD while sitting in 4th place.

Padres now sit 7 games in the loss column behind AZ and 4 behind SF … and both of them keep wining. Actually the Division is strong enough (so far) to have AZ, SF, and LA all currently in the playoffs based on current standings.

Padres need to keep winning … and will need LA to continue to struggle (as they have been recently) and the expected AZ/SF teams to show up as the heat of the summer and the long season turns around thier hot starts.

Still a pretty good cluster of teams that could make the WC if you include the resurgent Phillies and the overachieving Reds (who we all expect to fade as PITT has from their early success).

91 games to play and only 3 games in the loss column out of a WC slot with still a lot of teams in play … with this team (on paper) they should be able to overcome that.

Start with SF.

I hate to say it but I'd be ecstatic with a split.

DeScalfani always dominates us if I recall correctly.

If we just win each 3 games series 2-1 and split the 4 game series'swe'll be sitting pretty by September.

I'd prefer an 8 game win streak but something is gonna have to change with the offense for that to happen.

We have got to lead the league in called 3rd strikes.

But we aren’t content with that…we have to do it with guys in scoring position.

2 opposite field homers for Soto. 3 in the last week. His first multi-homer game as a Padre. Maybe it's all finally starting to come together.

This game is so over, García has become a real piece of garbage.

Garcia … old, ineffective, and a FA after the season is making his case to be the next DFA ahead of Crismatt.

Beyond the meltdown of Garcia - Carlton - Kerr to earn the loss … keep focused on the lack of hitting vs a “bullpen game” of pitchers. Keep waiting for a consistent turnaround and just not happening.

Did hear a comment (think Melvin) that the Padres need another RH pitcher in the pen. Said trying to get Garcia going but not working yet (no minor league options). Not said was that Honeywell has struggled recently (also has no minor league options). Should we expect a move soon?

IL for either Garcia or Honeywell? DFA of either? Who is added from EP ... Tapia / Knehr? Do they make a gamble on a non-roster RP ... maybe Jacob in AA? Not a lot of good options at hand.

Also, they need an offset move to add Lugo today ... so more pressure on moving Garcia / Honeywell and should add Crismatt ... that before the desire to add a RHRP upgrade. Maybe two players removed from the 26 man.
