Padres are now tied with SF as SF has hit a major losing run as the Padres hit a major winning run (albeit against bad teams). Should be an interesting battle of two non-contenders for 3rd place in the NL West.

Side … 6 games remaining and if the Padres go 4 - 2 (really possible against SF and CWS) they will be at 81-81 … given how bad we perceive 2023 that is surprising.

Fenn, if you'd have said a .500 record at years end would be surprising, you'd be 100% correct. EVERYONE EVERYWHERE expected 95-100 wins.

Nice to see Bogaerts actually hit like expected ( shame it took him until September).

Sweeping the Giants is always a hope so I'll keep watching.

This one is on Hader…….or AJ for trading for a guy who refuses to get 4 outs.

Suarez up to 30 pitches…bases loaded w/2 outs and LH Conforto up.

Any other team brings in their dominant LH Closer there.

Despite what he says it's pretty clear Hader has been prioritizing his next contract over doing what's best for the team all season. He comes across super selfish. Despite his talent I won't be sad to see him go. Melvin sounded like he was sick of his bullshit in his post game interview too.

Maybe another team will not care ... but this narrative has to be hurting his FA market (or at least the salary and length in his deal).

Wonder if the front office (or player's union) are getting in Melvin's way of doing something like suspending him for insubordination ... Melvin really seemed to suggest that this situation was not totally in his control.

maybe a possibility was to send him, get only the 3 freakin outs he says he can, and then send somebody to get the last out, the dumb part about this, is that he shouldn't care about outs, but pitches, what is worse, to get 4 outs in 15 pitches, or 3 outs in 25?

Surely Preller knows this is happening,  and to keep past the deadline.....that's pretty lousy. Knowingly hamstringing your manager with a prima donna.

Interesting article in the SDUT today about state of affairs. Says Seidler not making decisions since his latest illness. AJ is 100% still here because of Seidler. With the other money guys now making some decisions,  hopefully AJ gets canned? Bad team builder( i.e. bad GM)

Preller was in a bit of a bind ... Padres at the time of the trade deadline still held hope of making the playoffs (that is why they were buyers) and if they sold their closer (and Suarez was still not available) that would be a sign of giving up. In retrospect maybe should but at the time ... no

Maybe it less about the number outs or the number of pitches ... maybe not wanting to pitch ... sit ... and return to pitch in another inning ... avoid the heat up / cool down / heat up which he may view as higher risk to his arm (or effectiveness).
