Quote from Booster SD on February 26, 2019, 11:02 amAssuming its MadBum that takes the hill for SF,
1. Margot - CF
2. Kinsler - 2B
3. Machado - SS
4. Hosmer - 1B
5. Myers - LF
6. Renfroe - RF
7. France - 3B
8. Hedges - C
Urias and Reyes start the year in AAA with Mejia and Tatis.

Quote from David Jay on February 26, 2019, 11:36 amIf all 25 members of the opening day roster are in the organization today, I'd be shocked. Don't know how that would translate into the OD lineup, but it will have some.
Also, the odds of Urias being on the El Paso roster on opening day are barely higher than the odd of ME being on that roster. Luis will be batting in the two-hole at Petco Park on 3/28.

With MadBum on the mound I don’t see Hos hitting ahead of Myers and Renfroe.

What position do you play? Do you have a favorite jersey number, I will make sure I pre order a Chihuahua jersey for the season opener!

MadBum will probably only go six being so early in the year. So Hosmer may only see him twice. That way it breaks up the Righties for the bullpen.

What positions/roles are you referring to? I could see the OD starting pitcher being an add, anyone else you see?

Quote from fenn68 on February 27, 2019, 10:15 amNOT my choice but if some of the off the wall thinking being tossed around on the Padres website / radio coverage ... since Bumgarner (LHP) is starting ... the Padres may consider Myers in CF (I guess they never learn) for that (and selected future games) to get big offense in the line-up. IF they go that route:
CF Myers
2B Kinsler
3B Machado
1B Hosmer (L)
RF Reyes
LF Renfroe
C Hedges
SS Urias (sort of ease in the rookie against an elite pitcher)
SP Lucchesi (basically honor him the the best of last season)
====
Now we have to pray that Lucchesi can induce a lot of ground balls or pop-ups since that OF may be just a bit lacking in defensive skills. Maybe alternatively they go opening day with their best ground ball pitcher just to minimize balls to the OF.
====
Side ... they really like to mess with Myers for some reason even after he has shown little adaptability to various positions and just because one is athletic does not make the versatile. All that has to be a negative on his hitting.
Think some in the FO are just playing video games with him and are not considering what is best for Myers may be best for the Padres if one position (LF) maximized his defense / offense contribution.

Quote from Booster SD on February 27, 2019, 12:02 pmI agree, this is lame less than two weeks out from the story on the SD home page that Myers is LF only and now they are toying with "versatility" again. The definition of crazy is to do the same thing over and over again and hope for success. Why dont we just play Machado at 2B that day, he is a good athlete as well.
Just leave well enough alone and lets see if Myers can stay healthy in LF and start producing like his All Star season again.

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 27, 2019, 12:28 pmI think we at least need to give Margot a chance to show he is better than the 2018 version.
But if he can't/doesn't,whats the alternative?
Start Freddie everyday even against lefties....or put Myers back out there?
Cordero/Myers platoon with Myers in LF against righthanders Cordero in CF?
We're not in the "figuring it out" stage anymore....we are in the "win games" any way we can stage.
