Opening Day 2023

The very best day of the year if you're a baseball fan.
I'm not sure how the season will end....hopefully with a parade down Harbor Drive but I do know that this is going to be a fun year...having seen the Padres in San Diego since the old Westgate Park PCL days to San Diego Stadium, Murph, QUALCOMM to Petco...I don't think I have been this excited for a Padre Season since 1984 and 1998...damn I feel old 🙂
Let's light this candle and get the battle rattle on

I started following baseball in 1984 when SD made the WS. 1998 I was excited about the team, but not near as I am for this team!
Once again, we really need to be thankful for Seidler grabbing the reigns of our beloved franchise, screwing the "system", and just stroking checks to give die hards and band wagoners a team with a very realistic chance of winning it all! Its going to be a great ride this season!

It's funny...the weather here in SE Georgia is a perfect "San Diego" day.
70 degrees and sunny and little humidity.
But in San Diego?
Talk about a role reversal.
As long as we get the game in it will be OK....although it went from a normal night for me to a late night again.

Today’s line-up looks like the every day batting order going forward with the only change being Tatis coming in leading off … sending Grisham out of the lead-off spot to the 9th slot bumping Dahl. Then of course, Cruz platoons with Carpenter.

I can't believe our fans were Booing Soto and the team last night.
On opening night?
Game One?!
What are we the Yankees now because we've spent money and have expectations?

Should we take bets on how long BoMel keeps Soto in the 2 hole?
We will definitely need his thump before FTJ comes back.
Hit Kim in the lead off spot( you need to get Grisham locked into the 9 hole. Let him know exactly what's expected of him), followed by Jake.
Make Juan our cleanup hitter. He could hit 40+ HR's if he wasn't looking at so many pitches.

Not really surprising ... Padres are no longer the plucky under dogs. All the hype over the winter and heading into the season (the team and individual players) raises the bar / expectations. Fans got their emotional investment cranked up .... so any sub-optimal performance by the Padres is more frustrating ... and results in minimal patience turning into boos.
Under promise and over deliver generally is a winning approach but over promise and under deliver (even if one game) is not good. Padres (except for Bogaerts) just did not look good on a rainy day ... adds to a lot of unhappiness.
Of course all that can change on a dime if the Padres go on a winning streak. Except for the diehards ... fans are fickle at the best of times.
