Middle IF in AA and AAA

Page 1 of 2Next

Any ideas how it will shake out?

Ideas yes, but probably wrong.

AA guessing Arias at SS, E.Rosario at 2B, Castillo swing man. Giron super utility.

AAA will go with Cronenworth at SS, Miller at 2B, Quiroz swing man. Beckham super utility.

Dozier is the fly in the ointment but I have him making the 26 man.

Could see that. Does that make our IF on the 26

1 Tatis

2 Machado

3 Hosmer

4 Profar

5 Garcia

6 Dozier / France

With Profar's ability to play the OF s well... I can see 7 IF kept, question is France/Garcia or Cronsworth who will be the last 2...?

OF 4 IF 7 C 2

OF Myers/Pham/Grisham/Franchy..... Olivares/Ona/Naylor in AAA... Ornelas/++ in AA.. Langares DFA'd or kept at AAA

If spring training ended today.....Franchy is not on this roster....I keep Olivares.....Damn sorry about that, I didn't realize it was a middle infield post for AA / AAA

Dozier is this years Kinsler but has more game I hope.....if not I like Croenworth sticking

AAA logjam is beyond belief.  If 26-man does end up most likely combo of: Profar, Dozier, & Garcia...

AAA based on who's in ST would project to:  Breyvic Valera (out of options, might get claimed; has bounced around via Waivers all offseason, but would have to be ON a team's O.D. roster), Ty France, Jake Cronenworth, Seth Mejias-Brean, Esteban Quiroz, Owen Miller, Jason Vosler, & Ivan Castillo.

Also Gordan Beckham, but seems more likely to be released (or have an opt out).

Even if Valera & Beckham are gone, that's still SEVEN Infielders for 5 or 6 max AAA INF spots.  Could be 8 or 9!  Doesn't even count Matthew Batten who played in AAA bascially all last season or Brad Zunica really "due" to be in AAA @ 1B.

Obviously either someone/s gets released OR, more likely, 1-2 guys forced back down to AA and guys there like Van Gansen, Giron, and "Ray-Patrick Didder"(?) are REALLY likely on the minors cuts bubble

Brian,

Notwithstanding a trade, I basically agree with your thoughts on the Padres OD infield although I would pencil in France as the 7th infielder. My thoughts are that they keep 2 catchers and 4 outfielders with Profar and Mejia, and possibly even France, as back-up OF's.

Agree that Beckham and Valera don't make the team and Valera's spot on the 40-man will be taken by Dozier.

As for El Paso, I see Vosler, Quiroz, Miller, Cronenworth and Mejias-Brean in the infield with Castillo playing both infield and OF.

For Amarillo, you have Potts at 3b, Arias at SS, Eguy Rosario at 2b and Zunica at 1b.  Backed up by Batten and Van Gansen.

Lots of flexibility in both AA and AAA.  Look to Hi and Lo A, and you have similar battles for playing time.  Lots of depth that also could be used as trade chips.

Oops, forgot to add Allen Cordoba to the INF/OF picture at Amarillo.  Made great strides from very serious injuries in 2018 and looks like he's fully back to skills he showed before he spent that lost 2017 year in San Diego.

Triple A-

2B/SS Owen Miller
3B Ty France
The rest will shake out but its not a big deal

Double-A:
SS Gabriel Arias

Done, cool that was easy.  There are a lot of players, but some of them are really just on the team right now in case someone picks up an injury.  If Cronenworth makes the big league team, you might see Beckham make the club and start at SS, with Quiroz playing DH/2B.  I like Castillo but if he makes a team it will probably be as a super utility or starting at 2B in Double -A despite his big year last year.  If Beckham gets released he might become super utility in Triple-A.  Other than that, the players will be released or optioned and be bench players.  Valera is on the 40 man, out of options, and with the signing of Dozier becomes expendable.  If he makes a good impression in ST maybe Preller can get something for him, if not, no worries.

I have  Cordoba (3B) at AA -- I can see him putting his name out there with a strong AA season.. Kid has defensive flexibility/speed and can flat out hit
