Luis Torrens
Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 10:21 amGuessing Mejia still has more trade value just based on reputation as a hitter and his ML time. Everyone needs (wants) a boost in catching depth so should be a market.
If they lock in for now with Hedges ... likely the will ... trade Mejia or Torrens to get the better return. Sort of neutral on which they keep at this point in a playoff run.

Since I like a long productive line-up ... still think a LF upgrade is needed beyond Profar / Mateo. 2021 that happens with Pham but this year?

Quote from Brian Connelly on August 30, 2020, 2:54 pmHmmm.... While it was nice to see some offense from C position, and Torrens did a good job blocking Baez' endless pitches hitting 10-15 feet before home plate, he was rough behind the plate otherwise. A passed ball - already his 3rd- a terrible throw down to 3rd that could've been a disaster, and moving/poor framing too much. Also didn't really to my eye take advantage of the Ump's ridiculously wide outside strike zone... but he was working with a different P every inning.
Realize he hasn't played much, but a little rough around the edges.

Quote from Brian Connelly on August 30, 2020, 3:09 pm... swear I typed that a few hours ago. Padres acquire Jason Castro! Not messing around.... going for it.
Torrens will go back down after tomorrow's game likely, and eventually Mejia will have to be optioned. THAT's a negative, since both he & Torrens will have none left next year. But that's an issue for the offseason/2021. Adding a proven vet C instead of developing/getting their feet wet "prospects". I like it.

Unless they keep Mejia on the IL ... injury more impactful that thought (wink wink) ... maybe the 45 day IL to create a roster spot of Castro. Doubt anyone complains ... Mejia makes ML money / service time while on the IL but not if optioned.

You read my mind... after I posted I realized they could just keep him on IL. Even with Nola now (and assuming no MORE deals involving C...) they probably will try to avoid 45-day just to be safe. They could actually 45-day Kirby Yates though...
