Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres: July 30-31

Tyler Glasnow (8-6, 3.47 ERA, 147 K) vs Matt Waldron (6-9, 3.64 ERA, 103 K) - 6:40pm
Clayton Kershaw(0-0, 4.50 ERA, 6 K) vs Dylan Cease (10-8, 3.50 ERA, 168 K) - 5:40pm

The Padres are riding high beating two of the best teams in MLB, sweeping the Nationals, finishing a successful road trip with an 8-2 record and a second no-hitter in franchise history. Now, they head home to face the tough Dodgers in a two-game set. The Padres are 6.5 games back in second place and currently sitting in the second spot in the wild card standings. If the Padres win both games they will be 4.5 games back.

The Dodgers are coming into the series with a depleted offense and pitching. Betts, Muncy, Taylor, Rojas, Yamamoto, Buehler, Grove, May, and Graterol are among the players on the IL. Paxton was DFA's and then traded. On top of all that Freeman was placed on the Family Emergency List on Friday evening. It is unknown if he will return for the two game series. Family is important and takes precedence. But, not being in the lineup for the series would be huge for the Padres. Despite all this, they somehow always still find a way to win.

Waldron gave 6 IP in his last two games allowing only 1 run against the Guardians and then struggling a bit against the Nats allowing 3 runs. Cease has not allowed a run in his last 3 starts that includes a no-hitter. The Padres offense is coming off a series against the Orioles in which they scored 21 runs on 37 hits.

Also, they added reliever RHP Jason Adam via trade. He has a 2.49 ERA and 50 K in 47 IP. He is a great addition to the BP with a much needed arm.

NL West Standings and games that matter
Dodgers(63-44) at Padres(57-51) - Padres are 6.5 games back
Diamondbacks(55-51) vs Nationals(49-57) - 7.5 games back. Too close to count them out.
Giants(53-55) vs Athletics(44-64) - 10.5 games back. Would not count them out just yet.

Current Wild Card Standings and games
Braves(56-48) at Brewers(60-45)
Mets(55-50) vs Twins(58-46)
Padres(57-50) vs Dodgers(62-43)

GO PADRES!

In addition, the Padres lead the season series 5-3 with 5 games to go. All they need is to win two of those to win the season series. When was the last time the padres did that?

PADRES WIN!

They come back from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Dodgers in 10. The BP was solid tonight. Even better tomorrow.

The Padres are 4-1 in extra innings. Quite a turn around from last year.

Lets win tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

What a rally to get the win. It could have been different if we hadn't traded for so many relievers. They probably don't use Morejon and Estrada down by 2 without the reinforcements coming.

I have to say even though it worked out I don't like having Arraez bunt in that situation. You're giving up an out just to allow the other team to setup the double play and force at any base while avoiding 2 if your best hitters.

If Arraez had any speed, I'd be inclined to agree with you, Jeremy. But since he's a slug, a ground ball hit anywhere in the infield is a double play. By having him bunt( a skill in itself!) we put the game winning run 90 feet away. With less than 2 outs, there are how many more ways to score from 3rd than 2nd? When playing for one run to win the game, I respect the call.

And how about Manny F**King Machado?!?!

I think the earlier comments about his demise were a bit premature. When healthy, he's still elite.

And how about Manny F**King Machado?!?!

I think the earlier comments about his demise were a bit premature. When healthy, he's still elite.

Manny has tied Dave Winfield for 4th in all-time HRs for the Pads with 154, with 10 more HRs, he will pass Nate Colbert as the Pads all-time leader.  What a comeback win!  Go Pads!

Arraez has won a batting title the last 2 years. He's hitting .375 with RISP this year. He's at .371 for his career. He's a little bit worse against lefties, but he's still a .307 hitter with RISP against them in his career. That's a guy I want swinging the bat. Kim is probably scoring on any hit that gets to the outfield. Even if Arraez hits into a double play you've got Profar who is hitting .345 off lefties, .333 with RISP and .429 off lefties with RISP this season coming up. I like my chances of getting a run in with those 2 guys coming up. With a different runner on 2nd and different hitters due up I could probably get behind the bunt. Fortunately Solano came up with the clutch knock to send Padres fans home happy.

With regards to Manny I had a feeling he was going to jack another one after I saw him get into a little back and forth with some Dodgers fans after he ran that foul ball down. He just seems like a guy who thrives off of that type of energy. Merrill deserves a ton of credit for following it up with the shot to tie it up too. The kid is clutch. That was a big time hard fought win.

Merrill has proven to be a huge upgrade over "can't hit" Grisham.

Didn't like the bunt either....Kim already in scoring position with the best singles hitter in MLB up.

Bunt them over and LA just walks Profar to fill them and set up DP anyway.

Which they did......it worked.....so not complaining, but if the runner is already in scoring position IMO the out isn't worth it.....esp with Arraez up and Profar next.
