Add that I don’t recall Wingenter pitching recently in his rehab assignment. Could be both are again injured but since I always look to less obvious conclusions …. IF both continued on their rehab schedules … think Ona would have to come off the 60 day IL by now and Wingenter soon forcing a DFA off the 40 man.
Maybe they pulled both from their rehabs … seen enough on their health and not a lot remaining in the season … and pushed the 40 man DFA decisions to after the season. Maybe continue to let them work in AZ or with one of the full season teams.
By not making a 40 man move with them now … Padres have some flexibility if they want (need) to add a different non-roster player who may help the parent club down the stretch …

Quote from Randy Manese on April 21, 2022, 10:41 amSan Antonio team position players are mostly one-time prospects who are now playing to advance to the next level. Ona needs a lot of AB's to become relevant again and we'll have to see if his bat speed can catch up to higher level velocity. So far, Esteury Ruiz has outperformed all of his teammates and, if he can keep his K rate down, may eventually move up to El Paso this year once El Paso clears out its overabundance of outfielders. That should happen in May or June, since many of those guys were spring invites and probably have a date by which they either have to be in the majors or released - guys like Mazara, Thompson and Liberato.
