Time for our top prospect to have his own thread ...

From today's DFR ...

Jackson Merrill continued to show why he the top prospect in the system Wednesday night as the 19-year-old had two home runs in a wild Storm win. Despite missing three months and coming back slowly from a wrist injury, Merrill will finish August with a .317/.367/.515 line and has a hit in 15 of his last 16 games.

A few encouraging notes from the Javelinas game in the Arizona Fall League last night: Jackson Merrill, 2-for-3, with a triple, walk and stolen base.

Jackson Merrill, who torched the Cal League playoffs, remains hot in the @MLBazFallLeague with three more hits.

Jackson Merrill's swing reminds me of Robert Hassell: sweet, left-handed, inside-out and power potential without the power actually showing up yet. His HRs seem to be mostly extended fly balls to left field. Once he learns to turn on the ball he is going to take another large step forward.

Yup.. pretty much our single highest chip.. if he moves way up the spec list from his current value.. he could net us Murphy 1 on 1... Murphy currently a 51 value to Merrills 30... Kirk comes in at 37 (fyi)..Grish at 13.. on that trade simulator.. our next highest spec is Lesko at 15... Tatis is our highest at 117..Soto 82..is #2 asset...

If Merrill cracks the top 10 spec in baseball list his value jumps to 60+.. not that the simulator and real dialog match up in real life..but it does give you a baseline ..Othani 52 is basically same value as Murphy 51.. mainly because simulator takes $$ salary/yrs of control etc. Into its equations

Or we could just make the trade now and trade Merrill, Lesko, Mazur and Morejon for Murphy. Who needs minor leaguers anyway?

Yep I think his development will be very similar to Cronenworth's. He'll put up a strong BA and OBP and eventually learn to drive certain pitches and hit 15-20 HRs a year. He also may just be Jake's heir apparent. It also wouldn't shock me to see AJ pull off another trade no one sees coming with Merrill and Lesko though.
