Eric Lauer
Quote from LynchMob on July 11, 2018, 12:51 pmFenn mentioned in the Balsley thread that FanGraphs has charts of velocities per start ...
My question was ... I want to see what Lauer's mph has been for each of his starts ... was it really 90ish previously and 94/95 last night?
Here's a link to what I found ...
Hmmm ... I guess I can't paste a snip of that chart ... as Fenn says, "stepping back you can see a clear increase in average and peak velocities while the bottom of the ranges are higher. For the 15 starts they have him averaging about 91MPH" ... and then last night was avg = 93+, touching 95+ ... clearly his best velocity of the season!

Quote from Lance Richardson on August 11, 2018, 11:35 amMy comment is only vaguely related to your post, Howard, in that it involves Lauer. Our Padres have given starts to at least five rookies this year in Luchessi, Lauer, Lockett, Kennedy, and Nix. I can certainly see Luchessi and Nix as part of a good rotation. If we still viewed all of these guys as part of our prospect pool, none of them are among our five best starting pitcher prospects. I think the scouting community would be unanimous in placing Gore, Morejon, Paddack, Baez, Quantrill, and maybe even Allen, Patino, and Espinoza above all of those guys. Granting that attrition and general baseball cruelty will impact that group, I see the makings of a tremendous pitching staff.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 11, 2018, 4:47 pmIt sure would be great if we could get some great starts the rest of the way from Lauer,Lockett and Kennedy building some trade value.
Certainly not in a hurry to trade them....or certainly all of them, but as you mention those three are not sure to be in the rotation beyond this(or next) season.

https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/the-hottest-cbs-pickups-4-1-19/
Eric Lauer SP | SD — Previous Week Own % 14 | Current Week Own % 62
I’m not entirely sure if the surge in ownership was due to a juicy matchup against the Giants or the strong results after facing them. If it was the latter…come on! Sure, he managed to throw six scoreless innings, but are fantasy owners still blinded by the almighty ERA in one start and ignoring the actual underlying skills? His fastball velocity was down marginally, though nothing to panic about, he managed a meager 7.1% SwStk%, and struck out just three of 21 batters faces for a weak 14.3% strikeout rate. The only positive from the outing is he walked just one. If you didn’t care for him during your draft, you certainly shouldn’t now. He’ll likely be one of the biggest drops after his first bad outing, which is just so silly, as fantasy owners do it backwards.

Quote from LynchMob on April 4, 2019, 11:09 amIt's just dawned on me that it seems likely that Lauer gets thrown to the wolves this season ...
In other words, he's the guy that will get told to "eat innings" ... he'll have to go 5-7 innings "no matter what" sometimes ...
Because he seems the most likely to be squeezed out of the rotation by the next 2 waves ... so they tell him to "sink or swim" ... if he swims, that's great ... but that's not the most likely outcome ...

Good point. Might also be the case with Nick M who has an even lower ceiling than Lauer.

Quote from LynchMob on May 19, 2019, 5:55 pmMy perception may be far from reality ... a friend of mine just said this ...
- Since April 14, ignoring the Colorado game, he has a 2.78 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.
... is that right? Is he looking that good?
