We had that game the entire time.......until we didn't.

Suarez's fastball command hasn't been as sharp lately. It seems like teams are just sitting on fastballs over the heart of the plate and ignoring everything else. He may need to start working in his secondary offerings a little more. I'm not overly concerned, but you want to see him finish strong. That's a tough loss on a night when the DBacks and Braves both lost.

As it was mentioned earlier, Padres seemed to lose focus after they got the lead and Perez was pitching much better after the 1st inning. This loss was more like the 2023 season, when we were ahead in many games and then the opposing team came back and won the game.
I think it was a good reminder for the Padres offense to continue to grind when ahead and for Shildt to not be afraid to pull his closer when it was obvious Suarez was struggling (and he had been in recent save opportunities) and needed to be bailed out. If these are lessons learned from this loss, then it may be easier to swallow. Turn the page and GO PADRES!
