RHP Dauris Valdez – a truly huge man (six-foot-nine, 265-pounds before lunch) was impressive in his inning today sitting between 95 to 98 MPH while touching 100. He also flashed a very strong slider and should be a big part of Amarillo’s bullpen this season along with a lock to devour the 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan.

And when he's not pitching for Amarillo he can line up opposite JJ Watt on the Texans D - line!
That is one BIG dude.

Righty relief prospect Dauris Valdez pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out two.

Dauris Valdez came in the seventh and put on a show. The 6-foot-8 righthander pitched a clean inning and topped out at 101 mph with his fastball. He mixed in a slider and a new-found changeup that baffled Rangers hitters. He struck out a pair in a scoreless frame.

Padres: Dauris Valdez, RHP
The first thing anyone notices about Valdez is his size at 6-foot-8, 254 pounds. But it doesn’t take long for the fastball to become the next talking point. The 25-year-old right-hander routinely sits in the upper-90s and has touched triple digits numerous times. The heater doesn’t quite get the 80-grades that velocity alone would indicate because Valdez can struggle locating it at times, but it is firmly a plus to plus-plus pitch because of the way it blows by hitters. If Valdez can squeeze out just a touch more command early in 2021, expect him to bring the heat to the Petco Park bullpen this summer.

So, he throws heat and his slider is playable. Has his change up come on in the past year?
Are we possibly looking at a career similar to Jansen in Los Angeles?
