What is wrong with this offense. They can't even beat below .500 teams. Now they are playing the Reds and then had to Baltimore to play the Orioles. Even Padre pitching has shown cracks. Vasquez seems to have reverted back to his old pitching self prior to this season.
Stammen need to move Manny down in lineup into the 8th or 9th stop. He is a rally killer and an inning ender. Move Merrill down, too.

I'm going to the game again tonight. I think there's basically zero chance they move Manny down. It's just not something teams really do with veteran "star" players on long term contracts. There's also the fact that there is really no one to move up at this point. Tatis is really the only one hitting lately. Fermin has shown some signs of life the past 2 games, but it's been pretty ugly top to bottom. They moved Sheets up. He's got 1 hit in his last 23 ABs. France moved up. He's 3-18 this month. Andujar moved up after his hot start. He's cratered and moved back down since. Who do you want to move up on this team right now?

Abbott is one of those guys (been alot lately) that completely dominates us.
Let's hope something changes tonight.

In the spirit of unjustified piling on (and the season is not over):
IF the Padres ended the season with their current BA ... that would be the worst team BA for a season since 1908.
I don't expect that to happen but gives some perspective as to the depth of the struggles.

There's always a decent late arriving crowd and they're competing with the NBA Finals tonight, but I can't remember the last time Petco looked this empty.

The Padres offense came to life tonight. Everyone except Tatis, Merrill and Machado got a hit.

Bases loaded, no outs, and FTJ and Merrill combine to hit the ball about 200 feet. Brutal....
Bringing up young, hungry guys, who can run, is helping.
Question: isn't Taylor a 2B by trade? And is not FTJ the best defensive player in baseball...as a RF??? So, does it not make sense to put FTJ back in RF, and start Taylor at 2B? Would that not be a better defensive team behind our SP??? Stick anyone in LF.... doesn't really matter.

When Ohtani was in a big time slump earlier in the season, Roberts took him out of the lineup for two days in hopes to jump start his hitting. When he was back on the lineup he was hitting again. May they should do that with Merrill and Machado.
