I'm fascinated by this guy! So ... he gets his own thread 🙂 I hope he gets a big hit for the Padres this final week of the season!
From today's DFR ...
The Padres announced that they selected the contract of Brandon Dixon, adding him to the 40-player and big league roster prior to Tuesday’s game. The 30-year-old native San Diegan was a third-round pick by the Dodgers way back in 2013. He was traded to Cincinnati in the three-team swap that sent Todd Fraizer to the White Sox and Trayce Thompson to the Dodgers, and made his big league debut in 2018. After struggling through nearly 200 games across three seasons, he went to Japan last season then signed as a minor league free agent during spring training. While he missed four months on the IL, when he was on the field this season, he was unstoppable. He logged 25 games each at San Antonio and El Paso, posting a 1.265 OPS and hitting 23 homers in a career-year. He’ll give the Padres a bit of right-handed pop off the bench through the season’s final week.

Been watching him closely since he came back from injury and he has been impressive. I know he's an older guy, especially for San Antonio, but he was taking his walks, swinging at good pitches with good balance and just using his strength with a powerful but controlled swing to drive the ball to all fields and over the fences. Usually gets a good launch angle and great velocity, which leads to the home runs, especially in the PCL. Should be on the 40-man roster as a cheap alternative if we can't or don't have the resources to re-sign some of the potential free agents. Can play almost anywhere on the field, but his glove is not why he is on the current roster. A great story for a hometown guy!
