Known to be aggressive with prospects who have elite tools, San Diego gave the 21-year-old righty a decently long look this spring before sending him to Double-A San Antonio, where he’s notched two saves in three appearances. Rodriguez has fanned seven and walked only one in five frames, leaning on his upper-90s fastball and upper-80s changeup. Beyond those two 65-grade pitches, the control improvement is perhaps most promising and could be what hastens his route to the Friars' bullpen.

After turning plenty of heads in spring training, Bradgley Rodriguez continues to dominate. He pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out all three batters he faced on 15 pitches to earn his third save on the season. The 21-year-old has struck out 10 in his first six innings of work on the season, with a stellar 39.1% strikeout-minus-walk rate.

Bradgley is going to be a force out of the bullpen, this year or next. He has the chance to be just as good as Estrada is now and I can see him taking Estrada's place in high leverage situations as Suarez opts out (if not traded sooner).

From today's DFR ...
Bradgley Rodriguez came on with two outs and a runner on first and proceeded to record the final four outs of the game on a total of seven pitches. It was the first outing of the year without a strikeout for the 20-year-old, but he lowered his average against to a paltry .167.

Bradgley Rodriguez doesn't have to strike out batters to be effective because with his mix of pitches he generates a lot of soft contact. With a GB/FB ratio around 1.50, he can get those ground balls to the infield to end an inning. So long as he keeps his walk rate down, and he is improving every year, he is one of the most promising RP in the Padres system.

He along with Pena and a number of other high potential arms who are non-roster need to be protected from the Rule 5 next winter ... Padres are going to have to make some challenging decisions to make room on the 40 man or risk losing them (and quality pitching potential is always the target in Rule 5).
Keep in mind that Musgrove, Hoeing, Waldron, and Brito are on the 60 day IL and too will have to be covered ... the current roster is at 39. Off the top of my head ... and pending how they perform in 2025 ... have to consider protecting Nett, Lizarraga, Pinales, Hawkins, Haynes, Knehr ... and maybe Rascon, Och, or Castro. All those will not be protected on a roster that has to preserve a quality 2026 26 man roster and ML ready call-ups.
40 man may be weighted to pitchers given a pretty stable ML offense and not much offense needing protection and a few current going FA. Still, Preller may just have to gamble on some being taken and kept ... release some veteran arms ... maybe swing a deal.

Bradgley Rodriguez came on with a 1-1 tie in the eighth and worked around an error to toss another clean inning with one strikeout. He’s allowed just two hits over eight innings in his last six outings, alleviating any concerns after his one poor outing of the year which he left with back discomfort
