The Padres are coming off a 4-5 road trip and are 9 games behind of the Dodgers. Now, they are playing the Braves, who have the 2nd best record in MLB, followed by the Dodgers, who have the best record. Thankfully, they will not have to face Sale, but will be facing former Padre Martin Perez, who is one of the Braves aces second to Sale. I always thought it was a mistake for AJP not to re-sign him.

The Padres will have a tough stretch from now until the All-Star break. Following the homestand against the Braves and Dodgers, they will play on the road 3 games against the Cubs, 4 games against the Dodgers, then back home for 4 games against the Dbacks and 3 against the Blue Jays.

The offense really need to get it done because the Padres will have the ineffective Canning on the mound and recently Vasquez has been unreliable. What Stammen could do is have Hart start in Canning place against the Braves and have Peralta go 3 innings against the Dodgers and then bring in Giolito. I don't think we have anyone in the minors to bring up.

NL West Matchups

Diamondbacks(39-38) at Cardinals(41-34)
Giants(31-46) host Athletics(38-40)

On my way to the game. They've won the last few I've been to. Hopefully my streak continues. The Braves have been scuffling a bit and it's nice to catch them while Acuna is out.

King was outstanding and Miller closes the door. This is King's 4th shutout this season.

We can hope that Canning has a solid performance tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

King looked much better. I still don't think he had his absolute best stuff, but he did a great job. Merrill has turned into a very good defensive CF. Manny has been looking a lot better for the last week or so. We need him to stay hot.

Some timely pitching, some great defensive plays, turned what could of been a 4-1 loss into a 1-0 victory.

We can not keep playing like this, they have to figure something out with this offense, or its going to be a lost season.

Another season of "What If's"?!

The way our offense is playing we pretty much have to throw a shutout to win.

Don't see too many more of those coming over the next two weeks.

The Padres announced that right-hander Lucas Giolito has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 22nd, with right elbow inflammation. Lefty JP Sears has been recalled to take Giolito’s roster spot.

Surprised the call-up was not either Marquez or Waldron ... both have been in rehab starts.

Sears has been ineffective in EP. Maybe a "placeholder" until they need him to start ... maybe some relief work.

Did not expect this:

5:45pm: Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Sears will start tomorrow’s game with Vásquez pushed to Friday.

Fermin re-instated from the IL .... Hunt optioned to EP.
