The Padres are coming off a tough, but, disappointing series that pushed them back to a mere 1.5 games behind the Dodgers. But, they can retake the lead this weekend with the Dodgers playing the tough Brewers in Milwaukee, who will not be facing Ohtani, while the Padres will be playing the A's, who lost 2 of 3 last season in Sacramento.

But, beware, The A's are better now than last season and have scored 221 runs, which is more than the 200 runs that the Padres scored. But the A's have allowed 226 runs, which is more than the 197 runs the Padres have allowed. Mason Miller will be facing his former team for the first time since being traded last season.

Buehler has given up only 2 runs in each of his last two starts. He will be battling for his spot in the rotation when Pivetta and Musgrove return.

Giolito is coming of a solid season debut allowing only 1 hit in 5 scoreless innings before walking 3 batters in the 6th that came into score with the reliever on the mound. Let's hope his 2nd start is better.

King has been phenomenal. He is coming off his best start of the season shutting out the Dodgers in 7 IP. Only twice in 10 starts this season he has given up nore than two runs and has pitched 3 shutout games.

This offense is anemic and has gotten to the point that Machado, Tatis, Merrill and Fermin are near automatic outs. I would like to see Duran catch in this series.

Padres win. Dodgers lost. Padres move to 1/2 game back.

Giolito on the mound tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

I want to see Castellanos get as many AB's as possible. Dude is productive.

Who loses out when Jake is healthy? Obviously Song gets optioned but I'm leaving Jake on the bench, let him be our super sub.

I have an idea that might work. Because the Padres had Thursday off, Stammen could and should move Canning up to Sunday and push King back to Monday against the Phillies giving him an extra day off. I would rather see King against the Phillies than Canning.

That would put King pitching with 2 extra days rest ... and for some pitchers that is not good as they try to stay in routine between starts.

Sort of the same issue as pitching on a short 3 day rest in the playoffs ... usually does not work as well as hoped.

Since he does not get much support ... have to give Johnson major kudos for his throw to 2B on a base hit getting the runner trying to stretch into a double. Tie game and it was the lead off hitter. Perfect throw. Game might have changed if that play was not made.

I play in a fantasy league that has Holds as a category ... so fun to have Morejon and Adam!

And I like Miller Time 🙂

Who needs hits? :-S

Padres win and that is good but that was a terrible game to watch. Except for the Padres bullpen the pitching on both sides was poor despite a 2-0 score. Have not seen such a poor display of control/command in a long time ... not only the number of walks but the misses off the plate, deep counts, and having trouble throwing to hitters who have been struggling.

Then layer in the inability to hit by both teams especially with RISP.

Sure did not look. like two teams sitting in playoff spots.
