Not many good swings for any Padres player tonight - we need to snap out of it tomorrow.  Richards and Johnson looked good in relief, while Adams was lucky to escape without any damage - he needs much more work.  Stammen really didn't pitch too badly, but it was the bunts that did him in.  Davies giving up more HRs lately; he was missing up and that might be because he had too much rest.  Anxious to see Clevinger tomorrow and see if he is ready to go to the post-season healthy.

The offense is struggling, if you look at launch angle, it has gone down considerably over the last two weeks.  It looks like they are being Hosmered aka hitting the ball as hard as they can right into the ground.  Well except for Moreland who is hitting the ball 10 feet

You're right on!  The team, collectively, now seems to be in a slump.  We've had the bases loaded in the past few games and only a sacrifice fly at times to get one run in.  Mostly it has been hitting into double plays and striking out.  Also, while we are getting our walks, we may be too passive and letting too many hittable pitches go by or missing them by swinging too hard.  Need to get out of it before the playoffs - Easley and staff have some work to do.

Did Adams let out a yell into his glove when he struck out the last batter in his hitting?  If he did, I think it shows his competitiveness and intensity that is needed to fire up the bullpen - that's what I loved about Yates.

The update for the Padres was that Clevinger's exit after one inning (very good inning) was NOT planned ... start worrying.

Maybe part of Morejon's issue in not being completely warmed up ... not an endorsement for a RP.

Is this a wipeout slider? Is this a pitch he can consistently get guys out with?

If so, combined with his fastball( from what I've read), could make him a plus during the short season( i.e playoffs)

Yes, the slider is his #1 pitch and he uses it a lot. Saw one report that had is FB as a “60” and his slider a “70”.

So the stuff really plays for the late innings. Issue with him has been control ... so high risk / high reward.
