A Dark Day in Baseball: Manfred makes worst decision in MLB History.
Quote from ultratvfan on May 13, 2025, 4:37 pmPete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are now eligible for Base Hall of Fame
MLB decision could open floodgates: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/dark-day-baseball-mlbs-shock-203944191.html
Manfred, while ruling that the permanent ineligibility of players ends upon their death, also cleared everyone from the 1919 Black Sox scandal, who deliberately fixed games during the World Series.
What a horrible decision by Manfred to make everyone eligible after death for the BHOF. The players of the Black Sox Scandal did more than gamble, they fixed the games and should never be eligible.
Manfred is essentially overeturning the Black Sox Scandal decision made by the first and longest commissioner, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, who must be rolling in his grave.

Quote from BoosterSD on May 13, 2025, 5:51 pmAlthough Im not sure if this will make these players eligible for the veterans committee, in that case they could get into the hall. If they are not, then...
They still have to get past the writers, and the writers still have to adhere the 5 categories/requirements for eligibility. And those include character and integrity. So they can still keep the likes of Rose and Eight Out based on lack of character and integrity.

Quote from Alex Tamayo on May 13, 2025, 6:30 pmI wouldn't mind about both of them becoming HOFS as much as the PED players doing so, good thing Is that we shouldn't worry about for 2+ years. 🤷

Quote from WindsorUK on May 14, 2025, 11:17 amI believe Rose deserves to be in the HOF based purely on his playing career. I don't think anyone ever questioned his desire, skill, integrity whilst he played. It wasn't until he managed that the betting thing came up.
Lot of bad dudes/cheaters in the HOF already( in all sports, really).

I'm anti PED guys. They knowingly cheated to get themselves( and their teams) an advantage. Cheated the game, the fans, our national past time. Players who were trying to compete without breaking the law( yes, using steroids without prescription is illegal) lost out.
Horrible time in our games history.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 14, 2025, 12:28 pmIt seems pretty clear to me that Manfred caved to curry favor with Trump and is using the others he reinstated as cover. A spineless decision from a spineless man. Rose proved time and time again that he was a despicable human being. His talent on the field shouldn't overwrite that.

Quote from fenn68 on May 14, 2025, 2:19 pmUnderstand that I am not a HOF fan and any of the hype about selections and "snubs".
Having said that, I do have a line to divide those I would consider and those I would not. First, their out of baseball activities are irrelevant for this purpose (yes, a lot of disreputable individuals in HOF ... think Cobb). However, their actions involving baseball are relevant. Rose bet on games ... clearly against established written rules and not of the believe that being a good baseball player overrides that action. (side: we are talking the "honor" of being a player in the HOF ... his records and I believe some memorabilia are on display), he is part of MLB history but does not deserve the individual honor.
Same logic on PEDs (don't care others did not get caught ... they did) ... and the PEDs changed the competitive balance of the games and creating a disadvantage to others illegally.
Unlikely Rose gets the 12 votes needed when the committee of 16 vote in 2 1/2 years and not sure what happens after that.

This is why baseball is the best sport going!
Did you see the excitement these 2 adults showed, playing a kids game? Even the hitter thought it was cool!
As shitty as some days are in baseball, you don't have to wait long for it to turnaround.
Cool play.
