Quote from Randy Manese on March 29, 2026, 6:30 amEl Paso has a solid team with man of the position players doing well in ST like Samad Taylor, Jose Miranda, Jase Bowen, Carlos Rodriguez and Rodolfo Duran. Song, in his rehab assignment, has both hit and fielded well playing 1 game at 2b and the other at DH. Team should score a lot of runs.
Waldron had a good start but McKenzie continues to show a lack of command, even at relatively low altitude Sacramento. Adam looked ready to contribute and will likely be activated as soon as he is eligible. With multiple arms in the bullpen, few have options so Rodriguez might be the guy sent down unless Marinaccio can't show more than he did in his first game - we should know by mid-April how the bullpen is evolving.

Quote from fenn68 on March 29, 2026, 8:09 amApril will be a hard set of decisions on pitchers ... now (and coming soon) are rehabbing arms in Waldron, Adam, Matsui, Canning, Musgrove ... all cannot be optioned to EP. That is potentially five pitchers bumped off ML roster (not likely). Baring new injuries ... can see either Buehler or Marquez out (to make room for Musgrove) ... Rodriguez optioned to AAA (to make room for Adam) ... Marinaccio DFA (to make room for Waldron) ... then trickier ... hard call Hart (can be optioned) vs Matsui (given long term contract) ... hard call on Canning vs Buehler/Marquez or Waldron being DFA.
Can't trade any of the FA signings this winter before June 15 without their permission. So, basically can't really use most of these guys as back-up in EP.
Given the need for quality arms in AAA/AA for mid-season call ups might need to opt to option "better" arms now and just defer the DFAs until later (that is there is not a major projected difference in performance).
In that vein, EP has Sears, McKenzie, Gonzalez, and ??? as SP and not sure the opts outs involved ... not great so maybe the Padres opt to keep a "SP" on the ML roster as the long relief/spot starter ... and that in turn creates different DFA choices out of the pen.
April will be interesting.

Quote from LynchMob on March 30, 2026, 3:37 pmI just watched a few minutes of today's Twins game ... and it made me wonder what happened to that guy on the Twins who has 12 hits in a row ... so I looked him up ... Jose Miranda ... and ... he's on El Paso!!!
How/why did that guy fall off a cliff? At one point, obviously, he was a hitter!
