7 position players taken ... all SS. Some indication of the current view of who makes a value prospect vs all the other positions.

I guess everyone is coming around to AJP's line of thinking.   Ha, ha!

More SS taken ... no other position players taken ... the draft is running out of SS and that might force Preller to take a different tact.

Unless it is his other favorite target a HS LHP.

18 picks and only 6 pitchers ... I guess another shift in mindset in the draft. Either a bad year for pitchers or the increased injury trends in pitching suggest a high pick is not worth the risk vs an every day player.

On the positive side ... Preller has an open window on non SS talent that may become a better choice.

SS Hammond or LHP Schoolcraft imo.

Nailed it, somewhat.  A matching set with Boston Bateman in huge lefties.  Go Pads!

The pick is in:

Kruz Schoolcraft ... 6'8" LHP out of HS in Oregon.

Ranked at #19 by the Pipeline ... so not a reach from a scout perspective.

#29 ranked by ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.  The Athletic's Keith Law #37.

Well so much for my theory. I don't think we're saving any money with that pick. Can't be mad at getting the top HS lefty in the class. I wonder if they'll let him hit too.
