2023 Lake Elsinore Storm

PreviousPage 2 of 2

From today's DFR ...

After walking to drive in a run in the second inning, Samuel Zavala smacked a doubled in the fourth to clear the bases and complete a four-RBI night. Zavala, still just 18 years old, is batting .158 with a .596 OPS after his first 57 at-bats of the 2023 season, but owns a career .849 OPS and 12 home runs in 403 at-bats in his brief time playing professional ball.

It is early ... and we can't really evaluate the opposition but all 6 Lake Elsinore SP are off to impressive starts to the season ... based on ERA:

1.12 ... Snelling ... 4 games / 16 innings

1.29 ... Castro ... 4 games / 14 innings

1.59 ... Lowe ... 3 games / 11.1 innings

1.64 ... Baez ... 3 games / 11 innings

1.69 ... Krob ... 3 games / 10.2 innings

2.08 ... Haynes ... 3 games / 4.1 innings

That is encouraging for the future. Hopefully one or more can actually continue to develop into assets for the ML club.

From today's DFR ...

Coming into the season, center fielder Samuel Zavala was viewed as the top hitting prospect on the team.  Just over a week ago, the 18-year-old was hitting .125/.288/.175. Since then he has hits in seven of nine games including two doubles, two home runs, and has scored in six contests. His slash line is still a pedestrian .216/.341/.365, but it is starting to look more in line with the player we thought he would be this year.
