2019 All Star Game

So Kirby Yates made it. We all knew that was gonna happen.

Manny Machado and El Nino could have (should have?) made it. They were every bit as good as the players that did, and if Tatis had had enough at bats he would have been a no-doubter.

The guy I haven't heard mentioned at all is Hunter Renfroe. He's 12th in the NL in OPS+ (5th among OF), 30th overall in WAR (7th overall among OF), and 4th in HR. He's improved his defense dramatically, too. He at the very least should be in the conversation and certainly would be a better selection that David friggin Dahl. Hopefully he's at least offered a spot in the derby (and/or Franimal!)

Oh, and by the way, Fernando Tatis is 13th overall in the NL in WAR with only 205 PA. Bryan Reynolds is at 2.5 WAR in 223 PA, and Alex Verdugo is at 2.9 WAR in 278 PA. Kid is absolutely phenomenal.

It hurts both Renfroe and Reyes that they don't play every day.

They would each have 30 HR's if they did.

Myers and Naylor cutting into their playing time.

I never get too upset about All-Star games selections but in this case don't think they were way off ... would have liked Tatis, Machado, or Renfroe but don't see them a clear cut snubs.

Just looked at fWAR:

SS: #1 Baez; #2 DeJong; #3 Story ... those are the three selected. Tatis sits at #4 hurt by the lack playing time ... but that is real and hard to justify dropping one of the selected because Tatis "could have been better" if he played.

3B: #1 Arenado; #2 Bryant; #3 Rendon ... those are the three selected. Machado is sitting at #6.

OF: #1 Bellinger; #2 Yelich; #3 Acuna (the starters) ... #4 McNeil; #6 Blackman; #13 Dahl were selected. The selection of Dahl should be the one questionable selection. The player that should be upset is #5 Verdugo (LAD). In this scenario Renfroe is at #7 so clearly in the discussion but right their at #8 is Harper (PHIL) who has the "star" cache that the All-Star game would want over Renfroe. So in a sense Renfroe would be sandwiched between Verdugo and Harper and probably be behind both of them if Dahl was out. Note: Reyes is not close if you use fWAR (defensive is the drag).

Dejong is the Cards only Representative.

If they had chosen Molina(reputation,HOF etc) then possibly Tatis would have been picked.

It's the players choosing the reserves right?

But they still are under the mandate of at least one per team....so DeJong.

Is it NL players choose NL and AL choose AL or do they all select for both leagues?

Because if it's separate I could see Manny maybe not getting as much love being new to the NL...along with his late surge being "too late".

Maybe they will still make it as others bow out due to "injury".

Then again...maybe they prefer the time off?

Selfishly I want Tatis to be there so the rest of the Country can see what we see every night.

Many fans just don't know what he's been doing or how exciting a player he is.

Nah, if you're equal with 30 less games you're not equal.

The thing about Guerrero Jr been selected for the HR Derby, just shows you what a joke this next couple of events are, I know he is talented but he hasnt shown he deserves to be in there, at least our players will get some rest
