Prospect Watch: The Comets took the lead in the eighth inning on a home run off Logan Gillaspie, after an Ethan Salas two-out RBI single had just tied the game. The Chihuahuas got two runners on with only one out in the top of the ninth, but couldn’t push across the tying run. … In a one of the PCL’s more neutral offensive environments, Jagger Haynes had his second straight strong outing, throwing five shutout innings against a lineup that included rehabbing Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith, who was 2-for-4 on the night. In his last two starts and ten innings, Haynes has only allowed one run and lowered his ERA through seven Triple-A starts to 5.90. That’s progress for the lefty, who gave up 14 earned runs in just nine innings over his first three starts. … Carlos Rodriguez had three hits on the night, including his seventh triple, which is fourth in the PCL. He’s been red-hot during the series, going 11-for- 20. Rodrguez, 25, has led EL Paso with 131 hits in 107 games for a .315/.374/.433 slash line. He has an elite 10.4% strikeout rate in his first season in the Padres organization, but his low power production, fueled by bottom-end batted ball data, has limited his overall production. … Salas had a single and a walk on the night and has now reached base in 21 of his first 23 Triple-A games. … The Chihuahuas and Comets have split the first six games of the series, which included an additional makeup game on Tuesday. El Paso will go for the series win on Sunday.

Prospect Watch: San Antonio ended their seven-game losing streak as Braedon Karpathios got the visitors off to a great start, banging an opposite-field home run on the first pitch of the game just over the foul pole. Karpathios’ 15th home run leads the Missions, but is still only good enough for 20th overall in the Texas League. Albert Fabian added a two-run home run to right field to put San Antonio up 4-0, and the Padres’ affiliate tacked on two more for the victory. On the mound, left-hander Fernando Sanchez had a solid outing, going 5.1 innings to get the victory. The 25-year-old from Obregon, Mexico, is in his seventh season in the organization and is coming off a strong 2025 season when he posted a 2.80 ERA in 74 innings. This season, he is at 5.18 in 57 innings between El Paso and San Antonio. He missed three months on the IL this summer. … Romeo Sanabria, who has been red-hot since coming back down to Double-A after struggling in El Paso, notched three more hits. So far this month, he has a .391/.473/.547 slash line. He could get back to Triple-A for the Chihuahuas’ final week after the Missions’ season ends.

Prospect Watch: In the penultimate game of the year at Parkview Field, the visiting Dragons scored all seven of their runs on four home runs, sending the TinCaps to their fourth loss in five games in the series. Starter Kannon Kemp had a rough night, giving up three of the four home runs. The outing came after two strong starts, where he only gave up one run and struck out 10. The 6-foot-7 Texan has shown big velocity, but has struggled with injuries since being drafted in 2023, including a left oblique injury that kept him from starting his year in the Midwest League until July 7. The 21-year-old will be asked to improve the shape of his fastball and find a consistent breaking ball as he takes the ball more regularly going forward. … The offensive star of the night was the organization’s other Carlos Rodriguez, who had three hits and two RBI on the night. The 23-year-old backstop’s .742 OPS this month has gotten his line for the year up to .213/.303/.332. … Kasen Wells had the other RBI on the night, with a two-out single and has now hit in 10 of his last 12 games.

Prospect Watch: The Storm broke their 11-game losing streak with a big assist from the 2026 Padres draft class as Joe Tiroly homered twice, drove in three, and Nu’u Contrades‘ double put the team ahead in the sixth inning. Lake Elsinore’s bullpen held the Quakes scoreless for the last 5.2 innings to preserve the win. … The Padres took Tiroly, 21, in the seventh round after his one season at the University of Virginia. He transferred to the Cavaliers after a big season at Rider University, but a foot injury suffered in the fall slowed him down. He is off to a nice start with Lake Elsinore, posting a .991 OPS in his first 12 games and 51 plate appearances. Defensively, he has split time between second and third base. … Dawson Willis continues to have a strong year with a pair of hits on the night. The undrafted free agent from Louisiana has a .990 OPS on the season. The lanky former Oklahoma Sooner has a .617 slugging percentage despite a troubling 36.6% strikeout rate fueled by one of the league’s worst swing-and-miss rate. Defensively, the Padres have experimented with having him play all over the field. We’ll have an interview him later this week. … Qrey Lott stole his 25th base in 30 attempts, which ties him for 11th in the league. Four current or former Storm players are ahead of him as the squad has been the league’s most aggressive. Lake Elsinore has stolen more bases than any other squad has attempted.

D-Padres Gold 4, D-Reds 2
The Padres-Gold club won the decisive third game of the championship series 4-2 victory on Saturday to claim the DSL title for the second straight year. Dayquer Alfonso was the star of the series and of the season for one of the Padres’ two affiliates. Alfonso, an 18-year-old Venezuelan in his third year in the league, hit .331/.464/.533 in 51 games and 222 plate appearances this season as a first baseman and catcher.
