Prospect Watch: El Paso returned home but fell behind early, losing to the River Cats Tuesday night. … Luis Campusano had a perfect night at the plate as he began his rehab assignment. The Padres catcher singled, connected on a homer, and drew a walk in three plate appearances. Campusano was was removed from the game in the seventh for a defensive replacement, which is how the Padres typically handle a position player’s first game back in action. The 27-year-old is recovering from a left big toe fracture, and the big league club sorely misses his offensive upside. Campusano had a .958 OPS in 58 plate appearances this season. … Bryce Johnson had a nice night at the plate with three singles and a run scored. It was Johnson’s first multi-hit game since the organization outrighted him to El Paso on June 15. The 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .205/.326/.282 since joining the Chihuahuas for his third tour of duty in West Texas. … After Sean Boyle pitched the first five innings, Germán Márquez took over in relief and got roughed up. The rehabbing righty recorded just two outs and surrendered three runs on three hits. Sacramento put four balls in play against Márquez – three were over 100 mph, and another came off the bat at 94 mph. Márquez’s rehab assignment ends Friday – after stretching out to five innings on June 17, Marquez has appeared just twice since, throwing a total of 2.1 innings. With the Padres in a stretch of 17 games in 17 days, the organization could utilize the veteran as a reliever to eat innings. However, he is probably not in a position to start games right away.

Fabian had three hits, including his sixth homer as he finished a triple short of the cycle, and he drove in four runs. Prospect Watch: The Storm bounced back from a rough week against Fresno and blew out the Ports in the series opener. … After posting an OPS of 1.000 last week, Bradley Frye continued his hot hitting on Tuesday. The Storm third baseman singled three times and drove in a run. The three-hit performance puts a nice bow on a very solid month of June for the 23-year-old. Frye hit .305/.438/.441 with six doubles and a triple after struggling through May. The undrafted free agent out of Mercer drew 12 walks in June after walking just 15 times in April and May combined. … Speedy Conner Westenburg singled three times, scored two runs, and swiped his 30th base of the year. With Ryan Wideman now in Fort Wayne, Westenburg has gotten most of the reps in center field. The former McNeese outfielder got off to a hot start in April but has struggled this month. … Jesus Castro bounced back from his worst start of the year nicely, holding Stockton to two runs over five innings. The righty, who turned 19 earlier in June, gave up three hits – all doubles – and a walk while striking out three. His 3.52 ERA is third among Cal League pitchers who have thrown at least 50 innings this year.

Prospect Watch: The ACL Padres scored eight times over the final four innings to defeat the Brewers in the desert. … Jhojan Downer singled, doubled, and swiped his sixth base in the victory. The 19-year-old from Panama has posted a .755 OPS despite some troubling contact issues. In 100 plate appearances, he’s struck out 36 times. Despite playing three pro seasons, including two in the DSL, he is still looking for his first professional homer. … Luis De Leon singled twice and drew a walk. The left-handed hitting 20-year-old spent most of the last two seasons in the desert as well and is a good bet to get back to Lake Elsinore, where he ended last year, at some point this summer. After producing a solid .778 OPS last season, DeLeon has an almost identical .768 OPS this season. In over 500 career plate appearances in the DSL and ACL, De Leon has a career .419 on-base percentage. … Kannon Kemp continued his rehab assignment with the ACL team, stretching out to three innings. He pitched well, allowing just one hit while keeping the ACL Brewers off the scoreboard. He walked one and struck out three. Kemp will likely get one more tune-up before heading back to Fort Wayne.
