The 22-year-old is 8-for-26 (.308) and has reached base safely in all eight games since joining the Padres organization in the Brad Hand trade. … Luis Urías hit his 20th double of the season. He is 8-for-40 (.200) in his last ten games, which has dropped his batting average nine points to .269. … Trey Wingenter, worked a perfect eighth inning and has hasn’t given up a run in seven straight outings and 15 of his last 16 games. During that stretch, he has a 12:1 K:BB ratio. He, Kazuhisa Makita, and Rowan Wick threw three shutout innings to lockdown the victory for El Paso.

Prospect Watch: After a rough outing by Jesse Scholtens, the Missions rallied with four runs in the ninth to push the game to extras. The Missions took the lead twice in the bonus frames, but both Jason Jester and Eric Yardley were unable to close out the victory, and RockHounds slugger Skye Bolt hit a walkoff homer in the 13th. … Austin Allen hit his 19th homer of the season and reached base three times. He hit a career-high 22 homers in Lake Elsinore last season, and looks poised to eclipse that mark with a month remaining in the season. … After posting a .921 OPS in the Cal League, Buddy Reed has a .429 OPS since joining the Missions, with just two extra base hits (both doubles) in 18 games. While his walk totals continue to trend in the right direction, he has struck out 11 times in his last five games to push his K rate up to just below 30 percent. … Speaking of slumps, Josh Naylor is hitting .158 (6-for-38) in his last ten games, dropping his batting average from .316 to .301.

Prospect Watch: Starter Ronald Bolaños struck out a season-high nine batters, and has now allowed three runs or fewer in nine out of his last ten outings. He has a 61:17 K:BB ratio during that stretch (60 innings). After struggling with command during a rough start to the season, the 21-year-old righty from Cuba has been dominant through the second half of the season. … Edward Olivares has a modest five-game hitting streak. his .307 OBP is hindered in part by his 4.6% walk rate this season. … Closer Dauris Valdez threw two innings, striking out the side in the ninth. In 13 of his last 16 appearances, the 6-foot-8 Dominican with a power fastball hasn’t allowed a run. In those three appearances when he did allow a run, however he gave up 11 in 1.2 innings.

Prospect Watch: Starter Osvaldo Hernandez faced one more than the minimum through the first six innings, walking just one while striking out five. Then in the seventh, he allowed a single and a double, before an RBI groundout put Dayton on the board. After that, he was pulled for Jose Quezada, who gave up a double, allowing an inherited runner to score. The outing actually raised Hernandez’s ERA to 1.92. Despite allowing a .262 batting average against, he has been able to find success in limiting hard contact. The 20-year-old from Cuba has allowed just two homers in 98.2 innings. … With three more stolen bases, Esteury Ruiz brought his season total up to 37 in 45 attempts. One of those bags included an overthrow when he popped back up after stealing second and made it to third. … Gabriel Arias, who has struggled with the bat this season (his OPS on the year is .590), is hitting a much improved .250/.348/.400 when he bats cleanup, as he did yesterday. He has reached base in 13 straight games.

Prospect Watch: The Dust Devils managed just seven hits (with just one being of the extra base variety – a triple by Justin Paulsen). … Owen Miller saw his hit streak come to an end at eight games. He’s brought his batting average up 26 points during that run. … Olivier Basabe, who was the July MadFriars player of the month in Tri-City, recorded his 15th multi-hit game in 36 starts. He hit a pair of singles on Friday night, though he grounded out with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. … After posting a 6:12 K:BB ratio in Fort Wayne, Henry Henry has rebounded, to the tune of a 38:11 through nine games. … Reliever Diomar Lopez, a 21-year-old out of Nicaragua, has a 20:2 K:BB ratio in his last ten outings (13.2 innings).

Both AZL clubs were off on Friday as scheduled. With the two haboob-outs they had during the week, they’ve gotten in very little work.
