Missing Snell is a big break. Like missing Skubal last series.  LFGSD and take 2 of 3 or better.

The Padres may be 5 games back of the division race. But, they are still very much in it. They still have 3 games with the Dodgers. The Dodgers have pitching  woes and play the tough Guardians this weekend.

Also, the Padre have an opportunity to push back the Dbacks, who play the tough Astros--in Houston, where the Astros play better than on the road. When the Padres face the Astros later, it will be at Petco park. Yay!

The Padres just need to do their part and take care of business.

GO PADRES!

The Padres win and both the Dbacks and Dodgers lost. Padres move up to 4 games behind the Dodgers and 1.5 games ahead of the Dbacks.

King was good tonight.

Webb vs Cease tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Nice bounce back win after last night's heartbreak. It sounds like it's just a bruise for Merrill. That's good news. I do wonder if they'll make a move to add another body capable of playing CF if he has to miss a game or 2 though. That was Wade's first appearance in CF this season. He only has like 40 innings out there in his career. Time for Lockridge?

Probably not for a game or two ... maybe has to be more like a 5-6. Think they roll the dice on Wade and cover any injury with sliding Profar or Tatis to CF (I don't expect to see Peralta in CF) ... with that triggering a call up of Lockridge.

The offset would likely be Campusano being optioned unless and IL is in the mix. As long as Kim is out need McCoy to start at SS and it will not be a DFA of Wade who is still needed backing up all over the diamond (if not the starting CF).

Keep reading that Kim is progressing in every phase except the long throw from SS ... and that is pretty important for a SS. Never totally believe the medical reports from the Padres ... so maybe a bit more concerned about Kim's recovery that we have been told.

Padres did sign veteran defensive specialist Nick Amed on Aug 31 to a minor league deal ... suspect as insurance. However, McCoy has stepped in and done "well enough" (probably better that Amed as this stage of his career) .

Next three weeks have to make the all on Kim - McCoy - Amed for a legit SS for the playoffs.

Dbacks lost.

Well, the Padres lost and unfortunately the Dodgers won and the Pads drop to 5 games back. At least the Dbacks lost.

Cease was a disappointment as was Matsui. The Padres had bases loaded at least twice and could not break it wide open. But, I have to say that Wade stepped up in defense in CF and offense going for 2 for 3.

I know why Merrill was kept out of the lineup, but why Tatis, who hit a PH double.

Let's take game 2 tomorrow with Musgrove on the mound.

GO PADRES!

Matsui has given up a HR in 4 out of his last 5 appearances now. His stuff looks really good at times, but it's hard to trust him right now.
