RHP Adrian Houser(---, -.-- ERA, --- K, .--- BAA) vs RHP Nick Pivetta(0-1, 18.00 ERA, 4 K, .438 BAA)

After a tough series, the Padres get a rare Sunday off and the host the Giants, who were swept by the Yankees. Last season the Padres had 10-3 record and a 5-1 home record over the Giants.

The Padres will face tough pitching in this series. Both Pivetta, who gave up 6 runs and the Giants Webb, who gave up 7 runs(6 ER), will be looking to bounce back after both each struggled in each of their season openers.

The Padres will be facing newly acquired former Padre 1B/2B Luis Arraez and CF Harrison Bader.

NL West Matchups
Guardians(2-1) at Dodgers(3-0)
Tigers(2-1) at Diamondbacks(0-3)
Rockies(0-3) at Blue Jays(3-0)

First trip to Petco of the season for me tonight. Let's go Padres!

What a dull game. Sorry you had to witness that first hand Jeremy 😬

Our offense sucks.

Disappointing loss.

Poor game from both sides offensively. Other than the Bader and Merrill HR ... not much hit hard.

I guess the only Padres positives were the pen going 5 shutout innings easily (albeit vs a team that is not hitting), some strong defense from Cronenworth, and Merrill's HR.

On the flip side, Buehler's did not look like a pitcher who will last the season ... primarily below 90 velocity and after innings 1,2 were he seemed to have some command (few pitches) innings 3, 4 command was gone and really struggled. Not hit hard but not effective. Basically a junk ball #5 if he survives.

Bogaerts seems to be making quality contact (not necessarily getting rewarded with hits) but after that a lot of real weak efforts by others. My hope for Campusano to hit at a serviceable ML level seems to be fading game by game (not sure how long it will take for Preller to push the envelope on a replacement ... not easy at this stage). The battle for playing time at 1B/DH has started out as a tie ... but not in a good way: Sheets (0 for 10, 5K); Andujar (1 for 9); Castellanos (1 for 9, 3K); and France (0 for 3, 2K). Note that down in EP Song is not impressing (3 for 12, 5K ... all singles) ... making a push to not be activated after the IL and just keep working at EP. Actually no one for EP is hitting well.

Usually takes a month to make a "fair" evaluation of a player ... and given no alternatives apparent ... we may see that. Only 4 games, so no over-reaction and want to see them AWAY but the under-performance is extreme and made more worrisome combined with the lack production from the heart of the line-up in Tatis, Machado, and Merrill.

Need an across the board explosion of offense to re-set the narrative.

Big game for Marquez tonight. It seems that Waldron (out of options) will be ready to be activated soon when his IL stint ends and although not my favorite option he may set-up to bump either Buehler or Marquez sooner than later.

With Adam also very near to being ready (made one rehab so far) hiding one starter in the pen is not likely since already a difficult choice on who to move to accommodate Adam (Rodriguez has an option ... Marinaccio does not).

Then apparently Canning is on the verge of a rehab run and likely is viewed as a better option than Buehler, Marquez, or Waldron ... so another mid-April issue.

Fire the hitting Coach!

Really thought with the day off and Pivetta throwing less than 70 pitches on Thursday that he would go today.

Not a fan of Marquez.

With Webb going for SF I hope this doesn’t end badly when we’re currently at 1-3

We gotta get out of this series with a 3-3 record. Starting our upcoming road trip 2 games under .500( or worse!) will not bode well.

Yes, it's a bit dramatic BUT every win counts the same- whether in March or October. And winning breeds winning. I've seen this group ( read: Manny and Nando) go into funks when we're not winning.

Stammen needs to find a way to get the O moving, and if he needs to burn Miller in the 8th to get an important out, so be it! Never go down without throwing your best punches!

Was it Al Davis that said " Just win baby"? Well, time for us to listen to Al.

LFGSD!

Another reason I’m not excited to see Marquez over Pivetta here
