33-24         33-26

Monday, June 2 - 6:45pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Stephen Kolek(3-1, 4.11 ERA, 24 K, .259 BAA) vs RHP Logan Webb(5-5, 2.82 ERA, 84 K, .257 BAA)

Tuesday, June 3 - 6:45pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Ryan Bergert(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 K, .077 BAA) vs RHP Landen Roupp(3-4, 3.54 ERA, 56 K, .268 BAA)

Wednesday, June 4 - 6:45pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Nick Pivetta(6-2 2.74 ERA, 71 K, .199 BAA) vs LHP Kyle Harrison(1-1, 2.51 ERA, 16 K, .160 BAA)

Thursday, June 5 - 12:45pm, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Dylan Cease(1-4, 4.66 ERA, 78 K, .251 BAA) vs LHP Robbie Ray(7-1, 2.43 ERA, 78 K, .194 BAA)

This will be the Padres first 4-game series since playing the Braves in the season opener. The Padres will be facing tough pitching. They did beat Webb, scoring 5 runs off him, and Roupp, scoring 4 runs off him, when the Padres swept a 2-game series from the Giants last April.

The Giants will be tougher to beat at their home where they have 17-9 record whereas the Padres are 13-14 on the road. However, the Padres are 7-1 against the NL West and the Giants are 4-5. The Padres need to find ways of getting hits and runs. I don't know if this will give the Padres an edge in game 1, but the Padres only have to fly north about 460 miles to San Francisco whereas the Giants have to fly about 2580 miles and 3 time zones all the way from Miami.

The last two games will be against lefties. I would rather have any hitter in there than 0-13 righty Campusano.

The Padres begin a grueling stretch all the way to the All-Star break and need to step it up:

at Giants(33-26), at Brewers(32-28)
vs Dodgers(36-23)
at Dbacks(28-31), at Dodgers(36-23)
vs Royals(31-29), vs Nationals(28-31)
at Reds(29-31), at Phillies(36-23)
vs Rangers(29-31), vs Dbacks(28-31), vs Phillies(36-23)

In this stretch, five series and 18 games are against the NL West.

Top NL West games: Dodgers(36-22) vs Mets(37-22) and Dbacks(28-31) at Braves(27-31)

If the Padres walk away with no less than a split. I would be o.k. with that. If they take 3, I'd be very happy. If they sweep the Giants, I'd be elated and jumping for joy. The Padres need to win this NL West showdown.

GO PADRES!

Sure seems like if Campy gets regular ABs that he can better than any of the other options on our roster ...

Somehow he has a .316 OBP without a hit, very small sample size I know, but still.

A split will do it for me, to be honest.

1B/OF Gavin Sheets
Injury: Hip soreness, wrist/thumb soreness, concussion protocol
Expected return: TBD
Status: Sheets crashed into the left-field wall and exited the game against the Pirates on June 1. Manager Mike Shildt said Sheets was being evaluated for multiple ailments, including the concussion protocol.

Sounds like he could be out a week. But hopefully sooner.

Sheets has reportedly passed all the tests they put him through and will avoid an IL stint. Sounds like he could even be available to pinch hit tonight.

Shildt also announced that Bergert will get the start tomorrow.

REALLY looking forward to seeing Bergert pitch!

He seems our best chance of a homegrown starter making an impact this year, or next!

Go Ryan!!!

What a game! The Padres beat the Giants a pitching duel and in bonus baseball. They are 3-0 against the Giants this season and push them back two games. No more Webb in this series. Yay!

Kolek was outstanding pitching his best game of the season and the Padres needed it. The BP was solid as well. Nice to see Suarez go 2 innings.

The Padres did it right in the 10th. Bunt the runner over to 3rd and then put the ball in the outfield for the run. It is good to see Sheets back.

Let's take game 2. Bergert on the mound.
GO PADRES!
