Padres vs Rockies

Page 1 of 9Next

So the Padres get the final game in San Francisco and head into Colorado for a 3 game series before coming home.

San Diego sits at 19-16 and 1 1/2 games behind the Giants for the lead in the NL West while the Rockies are 10 games under .500 at 12-22....everybody seems to have been able to get fat at the Rockies expense but playing at Coors Field is always an adventure so which Padres team will we see ?

The one that pounded the Giants for 11 runs on get away day or the one that has struggled at the plate and wasted some very good pitching ?  Looks like Lamet goes for the Pads vs Senzatela, who has been pretty good against San Diego with a 7-2 record. It would be great to see the bats get rolling and at the very least win the series if not get all three before coming home to face the Cardinals and then the Rockies again.....seems to me that this would be a good time to string a nice run of wins together.

Let’s hope we don’t get rained(snowed) out.

Forecast does not look good.

Hopefully Senzatela is rusty like Cueto was.  I'm hoping that 7-2 record against us is a relic of the past, b/c all the Pads hitters with > 5 AB vs him have hit him well (factor in Colorado though).  Especially Myers.

We did...  Doubleheader Wed when it looks like it really warms up relatively.

This doesn't seem like a terrible thing at all for us:  lose 4 IP over 3 games in Colorado, plus gain an off day, plus Lamet doesn't have to pitch in 38 degree rain, plus will gain 1 player for the (2nd game only?) doubleheader--guaranteed to be a P, plus have an off day after the doubleheader... THAT's Key!

I'd probably go with Darvish tomorrow, and bump Lamet to 1 of the shorter games on Wed.

Agree they should go with Darvish on Tuesday ... that already is an extra rest day. Tuesday is also expected to be cold, and probably don’t want Lamet working his way back from injury going out in those conditions.

The 7 inning double header games with Lamet (innings limited) and Snell who is stretched at 5 innings can be a bonus to the pen especially with Thursday off.

With Monday and Thursday off ... 7 inning double header Wednesday ... might they consider not adding that 27th man as a pitcher and opt for a PH type (O’Grady)? Even more so if Darvish on Tuesday goes deep into the game and only one or two RP are used. Just another option.

I'm in the O'Grady fan club, but in Colorado I'd say 99% chance it's a P.  Probably going to use Diaz with Lamet even in the short game.  But the real risk is that 1 of the games goes to extra innings.

They've already announced Lamet for tonight,  Darvish & Snell tomorrow.

Don't get the logic.   Creates a 9 inning, many pitcher outing today, plus bumps Darvish an extra day of rest.  Probably want to keep the rotation order intact going forward.

Yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense, throwing Lamet tonight. Why not have our best pitcher available to go 7, or maybe 8 or 9, tonight?

I certainly understand Snell tomorrow. I wonder if Tingler is hoping for Yu and Snell going max. innings during the double header? Darvish certainly can go 7, and if Blake cuts his walk number in half, maybe he goes 7? Abuse his pen tonight, give them tomorrow off?

The Padres announced that they have placed shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. and utilitymen Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo on the injured list because of Major League Baseball’s health and safety protocols. They’ll decide on corresponding moves before their game against the Rockies on Tuesday.

Detail to follow (if any)

I guess we find out who was in the traveling "taxi squad"? Or they play short tonight and have some EP players on flight to Denver from Tacoma.

I guess because of the COVID rules does not have to be a 40 man roster player and no roster move would be needed.

If it is three from EP ... and replacements in EP need to follow the quarantine protocols ... EP will have an issue but Malone looks to cover one slot sine he is "taxi squad" with EP.
