Padres vs Rangers Thread

That was ugly....was it just me or does Wil Myers look like he would rather be anywhere else than playing baseball
He is not a 1st baseman....I thought that's why they signed Hosmer so they could have both of them in the line-up at the same time
The Padres are limping into the All Star break unless they reel off 6 or 7 wins in a row and I just don't see it

I’m OK with Hosmer getting a day off.
But I thought Renfroe should have been the DH.
Would have saved us a couple runs on defense and the game could have been different.

I too am OK with the day off ... in the Texas heat against a LHP and after a lackluster series in SF makes some sense.
Not all that understanding of the logic by Green of who played where. Renfroe is a BAD OF when it comes to range / routes and too much value is put on his arm. Myers (although not gold glove) is a better RF while being a poor 1B. Myers should have been in RF, besides if they plan to use Myers in the OF after a couple years at 1B and a long stint on the DL ... maybe the should actually play him there to more fully acclimate him to that role. Villanueva is a better 1B than Myers .... Spangenberg is a better 3B than Villanueva .... and Pirela is no worse at 2B than Spangenberg. Looked like Green opted for the worst defensive mix possible.
Getting a bit put off by the constant line-up changes by Green ... believe the Padres are 2nd in MLB in deploying different line-ups ... something around 73 in 81 games. That clearly has not helped them win or play better defense and from my perspective ... not sure the casual fan can develop any player / team connection (and you make money from the fans) with a whole bunch of moving parts.

Fenn...I agree with you
Too many moving parts and the Manager should have a grip on what is and what isn't by this time of the season
Stats and all this computer wisdom only goes so far....at some point a Manager has to manage baseball players and not stats and what some computer says he should do

The lineup for this evening. About as good as we've run out all year, IMO. That isn't saying much, but at least there's potential for some damage.

I'm glad to see Ellis in the line up...the guy is a pro that handles pitchers just fine but actually has a better clue at the plate than both Lopez and Hedges combined
He could have been show cased much more this year and actually been a trade piece for a contender
This line up tonight actually looks like a major league line up

Hedges looks more lost now than he ever has. I'm so disappointed in him. I'm excited that the door is wide open for Austin Allen, though. If he's at least average defensively he'll be an enormous improvement overall.

I blame the revolving door of hitting coaches we have had the last 5 years....nobody has a plan and whatever they are teaching doesn't stick...too many guys are going backwards

This guy has been throwing the same pattern of pitches all night
