Padres vs Giants Series Tred

Tyson Ross is kicking off this series. It's nice to have Myers back. And when is it time to give Margot another shot at the leadoff spot?

It sure has. 7 runs in the last 5 games (0-5), including 2 shut outs, a 1 run game, a 2 run game, and a total blowout in which we happened to score 4. Yikes.

What are the odds that the Padres have a new hitting coach next year ?

We need a "contact" guy.
Not a Matt Stairs/Phil Plantier type IMO.

Maybe they get a new batting coach ... will not make any difference with this cast of players.
Padres have only 1 position player under the age of 26 (Margot) ... for the rest their "faults" are baked in and will (can't) be significantly changed. Need different players who have a different approach developed in the minors and part of their core approach.
Basically don't waste time trying to fix them ... replace them with players in the image you want (If there are any around anymore).
Having said that ... good luck in finding those players since almost all ML organizations have lost any control (or maybe desire) in developing contact hitters and have "accepted" the 3 outcome approach of walk, HR, strikeout and actually work on increase player launch angles.
MLB is on track to have more strikeouts than hits while setting HR records. Thank you stats guys. Padres problem is that they don't even do that as well as the others.

Any chance Clayton is our All Star rep?
Guys been lights out last 6- 7 weeks.
He goes out and keeps dealing that way his next three starts, I believe he's our best player.

Someone needs to tell prospect evaluators.
Because I still see hitters being docked for K’ing too much even when that is their “only” real flaw.
If the 3 outcome approach is now widely accepted then a guy like Getty’s needs to be ranked much higher.

Agree ... don't like it ... but agree that the K% is viewed in 2019 as irrelevant IF the player can put up a good OBP and/or SLG ... hopefully with positive defense.
With Gettys, clearly has the defense to keep in the rankings but not sure ... in this new view of offensive production .... what is the threshold for OBP / SLG. At 23, he has some time to show what he can do offensively but right now looking like a potential 4th/5th OF ceiling ... which is not all that bad.

Side thought: think it is somewhat detrimental to players (and the team's future) to try to mould everyone in to the same all-around image. Some are built to be contact hitters / high OBP players with little power ... teams to need some guys on base for the sluggers least we just see solo HR. Sort of the opposite view from Gettys ... but a lot of the commentary on Urias who clearly burst on the scene as a contact / high OBP player went directly to the "but he does not hit enough for power".
I wonder if Urias current dip in hitting has come from an attempt to modify his swing / approach to generate more power? Might that reduce a potential elite top of the order OBP player into a run of the mill player with no elite skills? Then again he may just be overmatched in AAA.
