Make that the 8th inning.

Quote from 3fingersplit on May 10, 2022, 12:13 amI must admit it is depressing to look at the scoreboard and the line-ups and see the Padres have three starters hitting less than .200
Nola, Profar and Grisham followed by two or three from .202 - .215 and then Hos, Kim and Machado....Hendricks has a three hit shutout going with two outs in the 9th and he gets pulled.....yes he was at 115-116 pitches but he could have finished....the cubs fans I was sitting next to were booing that decision and I was right there with em. One cool thing that happened though....actually got a foul ball and turned to the dad with his son that were Cubs fans and asked him which one of them was the biggest fan ? ......he told me so that's who I gave the ball to.....9 year old Cubs fan and he was so excited.
Back to the game.....Hitting is down through out MLB but San Diego has always been a place where hitting coaches go to die......this hitting coach needs this team to snap out of it or he will join the likes of Phil Plantier and Randy Ready et al
Lamet is still a HOT Mess.....no command and no confidence is a really bad combination and his body language tells it all.

When I see Lamet coming in my first thought is that we gave up because he has nothing right now.

Quote from BoosterSD on May 10, 2022, 6:30 amAt least the LAD lost tonight as well, so we didnt lose any ground.
We've got Clevinger going tonight, so lets bounce back tonight and hopefully the sticks get going.

Abrams optioned to EP and Thompson DFA.
So that leaves the Padres with an open 40 roster slot if they need a non-roster add at some point. Baez is burning through his rehab 30 days ... so he will be due to come off the 60 day soon. Note that Morejon is starting his rehab tonight (I think).
So it appears Azocar has won the 4th OF role and Kim has won the starting SS role ... both for now. If this was their thinking ... supports the logic of claiming Alcatara for back up INF until Tatis returns.

This is probably better for Abrams. He has had a month ± of big league time, and has seen how ML pitchers attacked him and got him out. He should now know what he needs to work on in the batters box, and then have a smoother transition to the OF, so when the bat is ready, he can take the place of Profar, who we all know is better suited for a back up role.

Quote from BoosterSD on May 10, 2022, 3:59 pmWith Miley starting tonight, and coming off the DL himself, it appears that SD has loaded itself up with RHHs including the recently activated Myers and Voit, and Grisham on the bench with Azocar starting in CF tonight.
On a side note, I thought Azocar laid down a great bunt the other day for a base hit. Wonder if it was called or he did it on his own?
Maybe with the different ball in ML this season, we can see some other options outside of the newer fad 3 outcome, walk, HR, or strike out???
